I typically rely on snow-forecast as it's pretty good but as a good friend of mine says the best way to get the conditions is to set foot on slope.

Going to Kicking Horse next weekend (3-5 Feb), with Backside tours.
Anyone been there?
I heard most runs are pretty advanced.
I board and would rate myself as intermediate so I can handle black diamond if it comes to it. But prefer easier runs to tell you the truth, as I find those more enjoyable.
Just looking for a public opinion on that hill. Thanks.

I was actually there this last weekend, there are quite a bit of Advanced bowls/chutes at the top of the mountain But there always seemed to be an easier way down off of each lift. The slow quad chair at the bottom had some cruisers as well as the double chair if you dont want to do the mammathly long runs from top to bottom on the gondola.
I had a blast last weekend but this is coming from a fairly advanced skier who enjoys the double blacks, but I'm sure you'll find runs you enjoy its a massive hill.

I'm going to be there, Feb 4 and 5. If you see a dude in an adaptive ski and head to toe blue, say hello. I will be on the easier runs, you may have an opportunity to pick me up.

I sure will
We are going with my buddy's company: IBI architectural group.
We are doing a theme get-up of old-school Adidas suits with a bunch of friends
So if you see guys in colourful Adidas track suits shredding the hill, it's probably us.
I'll be the one in green.

On Saturday we were greeted with prob 15-20cm of fresh stuff from the previous night as well it kept snowing during the day so we stuck to the trees as visibility was a issue, but the face shots of snow made it worth it. Sunday was blue bird start with no new fresh snow so a little tracked out but still awesome with the increased visibility:
It was about -3 highs and -12 lows while I was there so definitely bearable.

I haven't heard of some of those sites but a lot of their "models" are based off of publicly available data and then interpolated. In other words, environment Canada releases a 15km forecast grid for upcoming precipitation every day. A site like snow-forecast uses their "model" to interpret how much snow will fall at a given point and then apply elevation factors for temp and accumulation. In theory it's great but it doesn't take into account wind and localized things like temperature inversion. Snow-reports.ca uses the same grid to publish their maps and instead of using some bogus formula to tell you how much snow is going to fall it provides you with a general sense of where and when the snow is falling. Then you use your own local mountain knowledge to take a guess at where you should go.

My local hill back home makes yours look like the Rocky Mountains with its 300 ft vertical

Has anyone recently been to Panorama? Just looking for some reviews on the skiing and upper/lower lodging.
It seems to be a very well priced resort compared to something like Fernie.

I didn't realize what I had written there... "pick me up" Was meant to mean help me out by lifting me onto the ski. Sorry if there was any confusion.

Going to Panorama, Feb 3. A group of us are renting a cabin in Windermere, as our base of operations. (Skiing Panorama, Kicking Horse, Fernie, and Sunshine) I will let you know how it works out.
