Kim played great last night and showed no ill effects from her ankle injury. I think she is the favorite with the remaining women left in the draw and I hope she wins.

Wozniacki just can't compete with the best players. Last year Serena, Kim and Venus weren't even playing so I doubt she would have been #1 for that long in the first place.

Women's tennis is a joke. No offense.

But how many times in the past 5 years has the #1 ranking changed? How many different players held that spot? And how many of those actually won a GS, or even made it into the final?

There have been 5 WTA players in last 10 years ranked #1 at year end
There have been 5 ATP players in last 10 years ranked #1 at year end

Here is a list of players who were ranked 1st without having won a GS. It really isn't that big

Women's tennis goes through lulls. It's happening right now. But it being a joke doesn't really stand up when you're discussing the likes of Graf, Seles, Navratilova, and even Hingis or Evret. That was a time of utter dominance. Don't forget about the Williams sisters, Capriati, Davenport and even Henin.

Men's tennis is in a different era right now. It happens on both sides.

Other than Clijsters, I'm not really impressed with women's tennis right now, but it is hardly a joke.

Agreed. Her game isn't polished enough, but I was impressed with her push back in the second set yesterday. She struggles with her focus and gets easily frustrated. That will change with time though.

Those guys hardly lost a set.

On the women's side, not much difference.

I find tennis commentators to be irritating above all other sports.

Heh well there isn't much to say in tennis, it's pretty black or white, whoever makes more shots wins. Especially women's tennis which is just baseline ball-bashing

Which is why having three people blabbering on is stupid. They all have to get their piece in, and it ends up being nothing but cliches, Captain Obvious statements, and a ton of repetition.

who's staying up for Fedal, Chapter 27? Looks like analysts are almost split evenly, with a few giving the edge to Roger based on his momentum since USO. We've seen him expose the unorthodox young talent Tomic and the baseline pounding (albeit slighly one-dimensional) Delpo. Roger's newly weaponized down the line backhand was a big factor in both...but will he even be able to pull it off against Rafa's topspin?

Don't even want to make a prediction for this one, but hoping they both come out at their best level...even after all these years, don't think any two opponents could create tennis as good as these guys together.

EDIT: Federer wins the tiebreak 7-5. Federer wins the first set 7-6 (5). What an incredible first set, wow.

EDIT: Nadal dominates the 2nd set 6-2. Tied at 1 set apiece.

EDIT: Nadal wins the tiebreak 7-5. Nadal wins the third set 7-6 (5). Nadal leads 2 sets to 1.

I'm out. This is the first tennis match I have watched since the US Open Final. Glad I tuned in....pretty good so far.
