Is this thing for real? I can have 5 pints of regular canadian beer during a hockey game and still be under the limit?

Thats insane.

I gave you credit for being heavier than you are; I put in 170 pounds and I got .15

The "Light Canadian Beer"- if you look closely it says 2% beside it. I went with "light beer."

The point is- get to know your limits. I also punched in 4 beer when I may only have 3, as I know the cans of beer at the Dome are 16 ounces.

I would believe it. I'm 185lbs and they have a breathalizer at work here in Aus. After our xmas party a bunch of us blew. Legal limit here is 0.05...no one was over 0.046...I was a 0.04 after a few hours of pounding beers on the patio. Later in the night we came back and blew again after doing tequila shots and more beers and I blew a 0.06. At 0.08 you have to be absolutely trashed.

Premier Alison Redford is prepared to let bar owners get breath-testers to get ready for tough, new drinking and driving laws.
........
Bar owners want breath testers so patrons can check their alcohol levels before getting behind the wheel, said Redford.
"That seems to be something that they feel would be helpful and if they want some time to do that, then I'm certainly prepared to give them that," she said.

Waitress: Can I get you another pint.
Customer: Nah, I've already had 2 and am feeling it, don't want to lose my license.
Customer: Hang on I'll check with the Breathalyzer.
Customer: Looks like I'm not even at 0.02 yet, I'm good for a couple more!!

Yeah, because that's not a recipe for disaster.

Not just the hilarious drinking contests that will ensue but also the whole getting pulled over after blowing a .02 at the bar and then blowing .05 with the cops.

That is such a terrible idea. I can already see the lawsuits arising from malfunctioning machines in bars giving people the impression they're at .02 when they're actually at .20. Regardless of the attempts to disclaim responsibility it's the type of thing that just begs for trouble.

This whole thing is becoming a farce. I hope this legislation happens after the election.

This is going to be a debacle of epic proportions.

There is absolutely ZERO sense in implementing this law in the first place if you're going to follow it up with something so fundamentally flawed that it borders on stupendously ######ed.

Is Redford a complete idiot? This has already been done before. It ended in tragedy, hence they abandoned it. Now shes going to do it again?

Whats the definition of insanity again?

I can have 5 beers and be blowing a .02 for the moment. Give myself another 15 to 20 mins and have the alcohol cycle through my system and I'll be at a .08. So how can they accurately determine what alcohol level a person is at 15, 20, 30 mins later? This is completely idiotic.

Seriously I wish she'd just outline her high level alcohol policies/agenda and call an election already. It's clear she's got some strong opinions on liquor in this province and is hell bent on changing something around booze, I think as the public we should have the right to support or not support it.

But this "today we're adding strict punishments for being near the limit & driving, tomorrow we're adding a sin tax and then we're going to explore the drinking age" is BS.

It's clear she holds some agenda around liquor, but it's not being shared with the rest of us.

Agreed. Out with it already, see where she stands and keeping the 'Greater Good' BS out of it see if she gets re-elected.

I wonder if her booze stance has anything to do with her support from the teachers union?

Beats me, I have a half-dozen friends who are teachers and they're bigger sauce-monkeys than most of the trades-people that I know. You deal with those ignorant little basterds all day, every day and it'd drive any sane person to the bottle.

There is also the other end of the spectrum, getting college kids to see who can get the highest BAC until one of them dies from alcohol poisoning,

This has happened already. I dont know about them actually dying, but using the breathalyzer as a drinking game was a huge problem the last time they did this.

I suppose that all depends on your perspective.
