Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close sitting at 48% on RT's. Might be the worst reviewed Best Picture nominee ever? I heard some pretty bad things about that movie.

Haven't enjoyed many of the movies on the Best Picture list, Midnight In Paris is probably my favorite. The Ides of March should've been nominated IMO. I have a feeling it's going to be either The Artist and The Descendants for Best Picture. Really lack-lustre year for movies.

I enjoyed it. The kid was great. Surprised, actually, that he didn't get a nomination.

I'm not sure I'd agree with that. In terms of Top end, instant classics, yes sure. None of the movies that were nominated for Best Picture will be talked about in 20 years. I think that's fair, but that doesn't mean this was a bad year for movies.

I thought there was plenty of quality in the artsy dramas(Descendants, Drive, Tree of Life) to some mainstream dramas/thrillers(Girl with Dragon Tat/Moneyball, The Help, The Ides of March) to even some of the summer blockbusters. There was quality in them like X Men and Planet of the Apes. Combine that with comedies like Bridesmaids and The Artist and the year as a whole isn't that bad.

Again, no classics, but still plenty of quality films.

How did the Tree of Life get nominated for the best picture category? Worst flick i've ever seen!

Another travesty of Oscar justice that Hobo with a Shotgun received no nominations, and Molly Dunsmore wasn't nominated for a best supporting actress award for her heart felt rendition of a prostitute getting her head sawed off with a rusty handsaw.

The Oscar's have become way too commerical.

I like how Dean Pelton is nominated for an Oscar (Jim Rash for writing The Descendants)

Also, Bret from Flight of the Conchords - Best original song for Man or Muppet. It was totally like a Flight of the Conchords song. ha ha.

Agreed, Hobo with a Shotgun was easily the best movie I saw last year.

No surprise Drive didn't get nominated, it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It tried so hard to be artsy, but only ended up being completely irritating.

Yeah really disappointed to see Andy Serkis get snubbed. He honestly should have been nominated for Gollum too. No actor goes through what that guy goes through when he's doing something like that. Its time for these animated characters to start to get recognition IMO. It's not just a voice over anymore. I thought that Serkis might have changed that this year.

Honestly out of most of these movies the most represented one that I have seen is Moneyball. And I did like money ball, but there quite a few movies I saw this year that I thought were better. X-Men and Apes proved that big blockbusters can be great. I saw Tin-Tin last night and thought it was fantastic. How its not in AT LEAST the animated category is ridiculous.

tru dat.......i gave up on these guys a long time ago when pia zadora and showgirls were passed over - i know that some will say that anyone can have an off decade, but good grief!!!

as an aside, does anyone know if the actual show will run past it's alloted programming time?

I should note that I will likely continue to particpate in an Oscar Pool that a buddy of mine runs - $5 to get in most correct number of picks wins the who pot.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is one of those movies that I refuse to watch because of the title. Childish I know, but a man has got to stand by his principles.

While I don't agree about Drive being one of the worst movies ever made I do agree that it was contrived and still don't get why it's so loved.

Wonder if anyone does the same thing with the Adult Video Awards

"See man, I told you that Jenna Jamison would win the best three way backdoor double penetration scene, Mitzy Dupree has nothing on her.

Yeah that Jenna she's one hell of an actress.

Now pay up"

Bridesmaids is the worst movie I have ever watched. I dont get how anyone likes at all, yet everyone tells me how funny it is, even heard that from a lot of dudes.

I always get a kick out of the "bad year for movies " comments that happen every year. The fact is most of the best movies out this year property haven't seen, it's not like the only movies I watched in 2011 came out in 2011. You're going to discover great movies from that years, years from now.

Every year in a thread lime this you get "bad year for movies "and every year it wrong..
