Breaking Bad is one of those shows were you have to power through the slow stuff. I'll never argue with someone if they can't get into the show because it is slow as a mofo, but the payoffs in the show are so incredible that its worth it to sit through the 2-4 hours of dialogue.

Also, the "Heisenburg" moments are the best scenes on television.

It's weird to me when people say Breaking Bad started off slow and you have to power through it to get to the good stuff. I was hooked from the first episode. To me, it's all good stuff. I never thought it was slow at all. I loved the acting and the writing as they were both solid. It's completely original and intelligent. Like any show, there are some leaps in logic, but overall, it's one of the best shows on right now, from the first season onward.

I purchased Justified, Season one, a long while ago. Haven't managed to get to watching it yet. I heard good things though and I like Timothy Olyphant. I have about 20 other TV shows on DVD to get through. There's a nice little pile of DVDs to watch, but I just keep buying more. I'll be dead and buried under this pile someday.

All of the Showtime Sunday night shows made their returns/debuts last night in the States, and tonight on Movie Central.

Shameless, Season 2; House of Lies, Season 1; and Californication, Season 5.

Nice boobs all around. Not sure about all the breaking of the fourth wall in House of Lies, but it has potential...and Kristen Bell.

Just wanted to update this thread a little...

I watched the first two seasons of Justified, I did like it, but it took me a little while to really like the show. I wasn't a Timothy Olaphant fan prior so it's taken me some time but I've come around. The show has some flat out fantastic writing though. Walton Goggins as Boyd Crowder is nothing short of brilliant!

He started out as this throw-away villian that I didn't care to see again, but man they've done some great things with him, and Goggins is great in the role.

I got Netflix and cruised through the first season of Mad Men as well... way to fast for comfort to be honest. I was sick for a couple days last week so that's an excuse.. but regardless what a show. The amount of characters is great and it's more of an ensemble then I expected, still obviously lead by Jon Hamm though.. who is as advertised, amazing.

Any one else watch the three part BBC series Sherlock?

Watched the first episode last night on Netflix, it's just shy of 90 minutes, but it's fantastic as well. It's a modern take on the Sherlock Holmes story, and Martin Freeman (Tim from The Office BBC, upcoming The Hobbit) is really good in the role of Doctor Watson.

The character of Sherlock Holmes seems to take a little from "House" but I suppose House takes from Sherlock Holmes.

All in all, really good modern take of the series. The first series is only three episodes, so can't wait to watch episode 2.

Finally got around to Breaking Bad, right now in the midst of seaon two.

I haven't found it slow at all. Outstanding stuff and such a unique way to deal with some very real every-family issues. Can't wait to watch the next episode.

I thought it was great.

Hate the flashback and then fast forward part, but it still has promise.

Bump to remind that Justified's 3rd season did, indeed, start on the 17th on FX in the States, and will premiere on Monday, January 30, on Superchannel in Canada.

Watched the premiere of Alcatraz last night . . . . a strong and interesting debut.

I wish they wouldn't have put the fat guy from "Lost" in there, but otherwise . . . .

Didn't like. I am desperately searching for a new show to get into, and I thought this could be the one. I thought the story was a little mashed together, with the sequence of events making it unbelievable to me (maybe it was just delivered in a poor manner). I couldn't bring myself to watch the 2nd part / hour.

The River (ABC Feb. 7) or Touch (FOX Jan. 25 / March) look like they might be okay.

Maybe this could have gone in another thread but HBO Canada is airing the Wire from episode 1. There was a mini-marathon yesterday.

They've already done this with numerous shows including Deadwood and Six Feet Under.

This will be my first exposure the supposed best TV show ever. Looking forward to it.

EDIT: and if anyone missed the first 4 or 5 episodes that aired yesterday they are on Video on Demand on Telus. I'm sure they are for the other providers that have that service. Not in HD though, but I'm not sure if the first few seasons (or any of them) were shot in HD anyways.

EDIT 2: After checking the interwebs it has never been shown in HD for any of the seasons.

Interesting note is that they could have switched to HD but the DP decided not to for the sake of continuity, since the first few seasons are SD.

Even more interesting is that they shot the series on 35mm knowing HD was coming but haven't released a 16x9 format yet.
