LF: Places Available for Rent in Lethbridge
I'm asking around to see if anyone has palces to rent in Lethbridge, a friend is going to be attending U of L in September and we're looking to see if there is a preferable alternative to having her go in Rez.

Just out of curiousity, what's the adversion to Rez? I went through the U of L Rez and loved every minute of it. It's one of the dankest places you can live in if you get the dungeon (1st floor in University Hall) or you can get lucky and get into the apartments now. Either way I wouldn't trade that experience for anything.

Its not my call, I'm a proponent of Rez but I'm exploring options.
The aversion to Rez is coming from her mother.

If it's her 1st year, she should go to rez...you meet so many people, and make lots of friends. Rez gives you a great base for a social life in a new city, which is important.
After the first year, get the heck outta rez.
I did my 1st year at U of L rez, and had the time of my life...I have several very good friends from rez 7 years later.

I agree 100%. You do your first year in Rez, you make friends, you move out together after that. Rez is a blast. I know the drill.
Her mother, however, has the idea that there will be too much partying in Rez for a kid straight out of High School to concentrate and maintain her grades.
As such, I said I would see if I could help by finding out if there was anyone with availability.

I lived on the south side of Lethbridge at 5th Ave and 3rd Street (or 3rd Ave and 5th Street, maybe? I forget.) It was one of the few high rises (concrete foundation = quiet). Right across the street from the old Spudnut shop. $500/mo.
I kind of regret not going to res... no, I don't, actually.

Of this I am fully aware. Not my call. Honestly, I have only ever been down to Lethbridge in order to party and do stupid crap. Hence, why I require this thread because of how little I actually know about Lethbridge.

And we've come basically full circle. Yes. This is why I'm doing this.
Does anyone on this board rent rooms in Lethbridge? Anyone? I could send her to live with moon but I'm not sure I'd like her when she gets back....

I skipped Rez and got a house on the west side. Close to the Uni and things like safeway, Tim's and bars.
I will see if anyone I still know down there is either renting or knows a good location

The thing about Lethbridge and finding housing is that it's hit and miss. At certain times there may be an abundance of housing and people looking for roommates and at others, nothing.
When she starting school? maybe look for a basement suite?

She'll be starting in September, and basement suite is fine, I'm exploring all options.

I was an RA in rez for a year, and I'm currently in my 4th year living on campus. I wouldn't trade a minute of it for living off campus because of the great atmosphere and the huge number of people I see everyday just from walking out my front door. I know it's been said numerous times in this thread, but I have to say it again. If possible, let her stay in Rez. Yes people party a lot, but it also depends on the type of person she is. You can have your fun, but you also can focus on your schooling. I would barely know anyone in this city had I not lived in rez for as many years as I have. My best friend who lived with me in C1 in uhall moved off campus in our third year, and although she likes it, she doesn't really have any friends. Many of our friends we made in first year either dropped out or moved away, and she lost the opportunity to make more friends by moving away and staying all cooped up by herself in her apartment. She always complains how she is lonely and doesn't have anything to do, whereas in rez you can keep your door open and there is never a shortage of people to go out and meet/visit with.
Regardless of all that, I haven't decided if I want to move off campus for the fall or not. The vast majority of my friends who still live on campus are graduating this semester, so I won't have a lot of people I know to come back to. I'll also be 22 by the time the fall rolls around, and I can now appreciate having my own place. I need to start looking soon if that is what I would like to do, so I'll let keep you posted as I will be looking for a roommate (would love my own little townhouse, but I can't afford to stay by myself!). My sister is coming down to U of L next year and I had thought about maybe moving into a place off campus with her (what I realize now would be the worst mistake ever, I can't stand living anywhere near her when I go home), but I'm making her stay in rez so she can have the same experience I did and not be alone for much of the first half of the year.

Thank you for sharing your experience and I totally understand where you're coming from, and I even agree. Hell, no one has been a stronger proponent of her going into rez than me.
Her mother however, disagrees, and as she knows her own kid better than I do I said I'd ask around.
