Interiour Designer / Painter for baby's room
Hello everyone
Our latest addition is a little guy and my wife has picked out what she thinks she wants his room to look like. However I am just too busy at work right now to have the energy to paint 3 different wall colours and a more intricate feature wall design she has in mind.
Does anyone know a reasonably-priced painter/interiour designer who would be able to do a multi-colour room and a rather straightforward feature wall?
Thanks CP - I don't know anyone like that here in Calgary so I thought someone here might have been down this path and have a recommendation or know some one who does this designing/painting thing.

I've been married for long enough to know, fotze, that that will only end with me in the guest bed.
Seriously though, and recommendations are appreciated.

Paint the room one colour (if it needs painting at all) and use the money for other things. If the wife doesn't agree, then she has options, she can paint the room and pay for the materials.

I agree. A fresh coat of paint is an acceptable request. Beyond that, there are better things to be done with the time and money.
I did two wall colours for my first two when they had to bunk together to accommodate #3, but that was a special request, and partially to make them feel special with the impending arrival. Otherwise, its one colour or the highway.

Well that's not an option here, so while I appreciate the matcho "one color or the highway" I'm pretty sure if your wife "asked", you'd be painting several colors too.

No advice on painters, but depending on what your wife wants for a wall design, get her to look on etsy for wall decals. I know of a ton of people who have ordered huge wall mural decals (like trees, which seem to be extremely popular for baby rooms right now) for a very reasonable price on there. That'd save a ton of work for everyone and is easier to deal with in the future when the kid grows out of it.

If it's one room and 2 or more colors it's a DIY. You will not find a reasonable priced painter for a job that small. And don't even get me started on finding an interior designer to source the job for you.

Depending on what you consider "expensive" you are getting terrible advice here.
I've sent you a PM. We had a guy do our baby's room and a couple of other rooms in our house.
EDIT: I should note that he did the other rooms and the baby's room on separate occasions (i.e. we didn't need to have him do a bunch of work at once).

Exactly. Not only that, the redecorating process tends to introduce all kinds of chemicals into the house. Things like carpets, curtains, blinds, furniture. These will cast off man made compounds, the last thing a newborn needs, not to mention an expecting mother.

When we first moved in we redid the entire house along with the baseboards. Took about six weeks with all our spare time going into these renos.
Then the kidlets started coming. My wife wanted the same as the OP's wife for our first two children. Four different colors in each room. Stripes and what not. With our third on the way, she wanted to redo one of the rooms a into a pirate theme.
I must say, she has become quite an excellent painter. I taught her how to use the mitre saw and she put a funky chair rail in as well. For the paint fumes, nothing says I care about you honey like a 3M N95 respirator mask.

I'll second the the wall decal from Etsy. My wife bought one for our daughters room and it looks really good. I think she paid about $80 for a 6' tree with birds. I'd assume it would be cheaper than hiring a painter to do the same.

wow, we've really got a line drawn in the sand with this thread! I didn't expect it to be controversial in the least - I think this thread is "guys with wifes and kids versus those without both".
Woman get very... different ... when expecting. I think the proper term is "nesting" though "coo-coo" also sounds about right
I appreciate all the advice guys, keep it coming - Especially appreciate the PMs, will review and get back to you guys!

You have no idea. We have a faux palm tree in one of the rooms going right up to the roof. I had to bolt the thing into the corner stud.

I should post a pic of my daughter's room as proof that not all women are batcrap crazy when it comes to decorating a baby's room - her room consists of a 500 bottle wine fridge in one corner, a filing cabinet, a bookcase and three framed flames pictures on the walls. We basically shoved her crib, change table and dresser into our den.
Now... I may be a bit crazy about other things, my husband would have to weigh in on that part, because I refuse to admit to any of it.

I guess on the positive side, it has motivated the two kids to finally start sleeping in their rooms. And I guess that's why kid 3 is on the way...
