Default CBE All boys school...

My wife and I are considering putting our 8 year old into an all boys program for school.

Anyone else have their kids in a similar program.

Looking for thoughts and feedback.

Thanks.

Why an all-boys school? If you dont mind me asking.

I dont understand what additional benefits it would offer as opposed to a regular school.

Its a different program designed specifically for boys.

My son is having issues in the Catholic school he is currently attending.

That combined with mild ADHD is having us look at different options than medication.

The hags at his current school only want him drugged so they can push him to the next grade.(My opinion obviously...)

Its been the same for the last 2 years now with little change.

I do not want him to get to far behind and if an adjusted learning program will help then I am all for it.

The idea is that regular school programs have been geared towards a more "feminine" way of teaching as opposed to a more masculine way. Meaning they are teaching students in ways that are more geared towards how girls learn and not to how boys learn.
My little guy is far too young yet, but I would consider putting him in this school if it wasn't on the other side of the city from me.

School dances are probably a little awkward

But they probably don't need chaperones.

I would be cautious with that decision, the lack of socialization with females could cause social difficulty and anxiety issues later in his life when dealing with that group.

Why not just go the CBE public route instead of the all-boys?

I would think putting him in an all boys school will cause more issues...Think about it, an 8 year old boy is more likely to screw around in class with another boy than a chick.

Trust me, having sisters doesn't socialize you any better in dealing with girls.

Growing up with three older sisters was a nightmare of unbelievable proportions, especially when I bought dates home.

I dont think it qualifies as a date if you paid for it.

As a Timbits coach, they sure do. I would go crazy if my kid was as big a space cadet as some of these kids. "STOP LAYING ON THE ICE YOU MORON!!!"
There were kids doing the same thing when I was in youth hockey back in the 80s, but nobody called it ADHD back then. It was just kids doing stupid things like all kids do.

We didn't have ADHD in our day, and we certainly didn't pump our kids full of drugs.

I get that there is probably a condition like this, but it just seems to me like its a convientient way to label why kids are failing.

It seems like every friend of mine with kids has at least one with ADHD.

Which is why I want to try this alternative program.

If an alternative to drugging my kids is better or has the same effect then I am all for it.

After hearing what the punishment for acting out was for one of our friends' sons, I'm all for searching out alternative schooling ideas when necessary.

The punishment for acting out in class was getting sent to the computer room to play, AND he got to take a friend along with him. SERIOUSLY.

ADHD with just medication usually isn't enough, it's better to combine with behavioural therapy, or as you say, a program which in which the people in it can adapt and work with it rather than just trying to avoid it.

Welcome to the All Boys Program
Boys achieving their personal best.

OPEN HOUSE
We are pleased to offer an Open House on January 19, 2012 from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm. Dr. Jones is also giving a guided tour of the school on January 12, 13, 19, 20 and 27th from 9:30 am – 10:30 am. Please call the office to reserve a spot as space is limited. We will be adding Grade 6 to our school for Fall 2012.

I also work at a CBE School that is a program of choice and we encourage parents/students to come for a tour to check out our facilities to see if it is the right fit for you.

Not sure about all boys vs. all girls but my daughter has been at the Calgary Science School and we have found it to be head and shoulders above the Catholic school she did grades 1-3 in.

Far better teachers who are engaged and motivated. A lot less "troubled" kids and most kids are from homes that want their kids to succeed, by definition. Maybe not helpful for the OP but it does demonstrate that some charter programs can be very helpful.
