I usually never go over the $400 limit, and if I do, there is usually enough room between who ever I am with, to make it fit. If I go over, I just pay the duty.

I picked up, 3 suit Jackets, pair of Jeans, and 6 shirts from the Guess Outlet for $392 last weekend. Same stuff would cost me close to a grand here, considering one of the suit jackets I bought was a Velvet jacket that would run at least 600 bucks here.

The Guess Outlet? So you buy all your awesome clothes out of season eh? The editors of GQ frown on you.

That being said, I seldom shop in Canada anymore. I'm in San Francisco a few times a year that I just pick up stuff at the Hugo Boss store in Westfield Centre. My salesgirl there can order anything I see on the online store and they match whatever the online price is. Even at regular price it's about 40% cheaper than buying in Canada. If you have it shipped to a US address they seldom charge sales tax and if you are in Washington and show your Alberta ID they don't charge sales tax.

I still buy a bit at Harry in Calgary and I bought a suit at Holt last year, but 80% of my shopping is cross border. I always declare my goods as it's the law, and I don't want any future hassels at the border. If I can't afford the GST, I shouldn't have been buying it in the first place.

People actually buy stuff at Holt Renfrew? I always figured it was some sort of museum for ######s.

Ya, I don't buy anything at Holt either. Maybe on Boxing Day last year I bought a sweater at 70% off, but that was it.

I just bought a bunch of clothes on my vacation to Hawaii of all places. They had a premium outlet on Oahu, and I got a pair of $300 jeans in Canada for $40 at the Barney's CO-OP. I even bought a Boss suit in Waikiki beach 2 years back because the suit I had my eye on in Calgary, was at almost half price in Hawaii of all places.

Also, there are enough websites out there that I can buy clothes from the US over the year. The savings is huge. I really don't think I will ever buy from Holt, Harry, Henry, etc. again.

I'm dying to know what you self-censored here. A racist/sexist/homophobic slur? Another bad word that there's a museum for? Please give a hint.

As far as Holt Renfrew, I've only been in there once with a co-worker and while waiting around I felt so very much out of place. If someone approached me and said, "Sir, you're going to have to leave", I would have left.

Also, there was a woman there shopping with her dog in a purse.

I didn't actually self-censor it. Feminine hygiene products are censored automatically I guess.

I too, am a fish out of water inside Holt Renfrew.

I'm pretty sure if you gave me $3000 I could go buy something resembling the following 2 outfits at Holt.

That said, I was poking a friendly little jab, nothing more. Us non-suit guys don't understand suits, so we resort to hyperbole when expensive clothes are mentioned.

Looks like we've got ourselves a situation:

I don't get it? Some sort of fruity fashion joke I am missing. Their jeans and shirts fit me well, therefore I buy them. That is as far as my fashion expertise goes.

Colours are seasonal. For instance you're not supposed to be wearing blues in winter. It's of a spring colour.

So yes, it was a fruity fashion joke.

What are some good online stores that ship within Canada? The only ones I have found make you pay the duty and a huge shipping fee.

Damn I wish I could still afford to clothes shop. I've bought myself two pairs of jeans in Vegas and a Flames shirt (which was originally supposed to be a gift but I decided to keep it for myself) since my first son was born over three years ago.

Reason number 31 to stay childless.

I'm not saying kids are cheap, but perhaps the reason you can't afford clothes are the trips to Vegas.
