Police in Toronto said a sister had identified the retired welder as the man killed while crossing a GO Train track last Friday.

"The body was badly mutilated," said Gilbert.

Now why on earth would they let someone identify a badly mutilated body? If the body is FUBAR isn't a DNA test more likely to draw a solid conclusion of who the body was in this case?

I dunno, just something that seemed odd to me.

ah....the CSI viewer in all of us coming out.

yes. a little DNA test will never hurt. but a loved one is a hell of a lot cheaper.

i have a buddy who works for the mounties and he can't watch shows like that. in his everyday assignments they have the budget for maybe 1 in 10 major events to have funding for the extensive investigation and forensics they do on TV. that's major events.

an accidental dead guy ID'd by his sister does not warrant more monies spent that what they did.

and besides...that family will have the best family christmas they have ever had. when his mother wakes up the next morning, she will feel more alive and luckier than ever to have the family she does. ditto for his other relatives (at least the ones he didn't p*ss off too badly).

some of us have a little CSI in us, others have a little Tyler Durden.

Just to clarify, I have never watched a second of CSI. Don't know why, people tell me its good, I just haven't watched it.

The DNA thing just popped into my head first. If you can't recognize a body (my assumption) then use DNA testing to make damn sure you know who it is.

Dental records might work as well.

I just find it hard to beleive that all they used was a sisters ID on a "badly mutilated body"

Wow, talk about a roller coaster emotional ride. I don't know what I would feel more. Joy that my loved one was alive or anger that I had meed made to go through all this stress and mourning. I'm thinking joy and happiness would win out.

"He said, 'I've got a new name. I haven't decided what it's going to be.' And I said, 'What would that be?' And he said, 'I'm either going to call myself Lazarus or Jesus.''"

ha, someone else has read those odd heinlein books...

sounds to me like his sister's imagination ran wild when she couldn't get a hold of him, and assumed he was missing and/or dead.

i do wonder why dental records, fingerprints, etc. wasn't used, or simply checking the blood type.

edited for no real reason
