That protest would be about 2 years too late.

It is a pretty important event to place the capstone on the temple. I am actually surprised a bigger deal wasn't made of it as far as having a ceremony etc, but as far as I understand it was just the crew raising it up and people watching.

We send news crews for a capstone on a temple? Unbelievable.

Lots of stupid things get news coverage, like dirty hippies sleeping in Olympic Plaza, for example.

Hippies are more entertaining than throwing a rock on a building. Unless something goes wrong in the wind... then perhaps that could get interesting (as long as no one gets hurt, but it's a temple so the big man's got safety covered).
Maybe I'll call Global up to cover me going to check to see if I've got some roof damage tonight before this cold weather next week. Probably a higher chance of something dramatic happening.
I guess we can be thankful we live in a city where there is so little "bleeds so it leads" stories that we can cover such absurdly silly events.

Hahaha - that road was always going to be closed. Stoney Trail/Crowchild finally has an interchange after being delayed by the whiners in Rocky Ridge. DWI.

How much does all that cost? That's one heck of a building!
Perhaps the news story will be a editorial on why the government should end religious contribution tax credits when the proceeds are used to fund five star extravagent club houses?
I always thought the intention of religious charity was to assist others, not to have the fanciest digs to process through your rituals. Could a more modest building be constructed, and the tax dollars used for actual charitable purposes?
(Someone correct me if I'm wrong and they are volunteering the space to assist homeless families or something).
I have no issue with people celebrating what they want to celebrate or building what they want to build, my only issue is with my tax dollars paying for a five star private gathering place.

I think that is pretty cool, and since it is the first proper Mormon temple (design) in Calgary it is worthy of the news coverage of the event.

I hope the parking lot is big enough so my gang of toughs can loiter around in our modified civics and hyundais.

In Mormanism, temple are much bigger and holy places than Churches and there are only a small limited number around the world as major rituals and ceremonies have to take place in the elaborate temples and not Churches. Having one in Calgary is a big deal for them.
I find them fascinating and gaudy myself. Look at the other temples around the world.

The interiors are even crazier.

The idea of the tax credit and charitable status of a religion was for work with the poor, sick and needy. Not for golden statues adorning private clubhouses.
If CP promised to help some kids learn hockey, do you think the government should top up our contributions by as much as 40% so we can have a really nice place to hang out and talk puck. After all, hockey is my only religion.
Just my opinion.
