Default Goodfellas TV Show - AMC

The storyline is set to follow Ray Liotta's mobster character, Henry Hill, throughout his early years and serve as a prequel to the film.
Count me in on this one, Goodfellas is one of my favourite movies. I will be keeping my eye on it for when they start production.

this is one series that really should have been on HBO or Showtime. needing to be PG-13 for TV is really going to take away from those characters, especially Tommy DeVito

A prequel to the film? So they'll cover the Henry Hill 0-8 year old period?

No I'm thinking they will do it when Henry and Tommy are younger. Right around the time period when Henry and Tommy are selling smokes out of the back of a car and Henry gets arrested. In the movie after he gets arrested it jumps forward to him being older, so they have a pretty long time period to work with there.

As for the show not being on HBO and being PG-13. AMC has/had Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, The Killing so I'm not too worried about it being overly toned down. Probably not as many swears as HBO, but we will still get the point.

Goodfellas is my favourite movie, but I'm not confident in a series made 22 years after the fact. It's one of those films that's bigger than the sum of it's parts. Scorsese's directing, the story, the actors all came together perfectly in that movie. Not really sure anything can be added to it.

I'll watch this new show obviously, but I don't have high hopes for it.

I don't think it should be called Goodfellas. That way people aren't coming into it with preconceived notions.

AMC hasn't screwed up yet so I have no doubts this will be good.

I will watch it, but will remain highly skeptical.
As I have have probably watched Goodfellas more than any other movie in my lifetime.

Goodfellas is probably in my top 5 for favorite movies. I really hope they don't mess this up. I've watched this movie so many times that I remember every line of dialogue.

That being said, here is one of my favorite scenes.

I did watch it and enjoyed it. Don't get me wrong, I was disappointed with the ending as I would have liked some closure on the case, but I am also a little intrigued to see how they're going to carry it over to the second season.

I'll also be the first to admit that I'm not overly critical of the TV I enjoy. I can overlook plot holes if I'm still being entertained.

I rolled my eyes when I first heard the news. Then I read that the original screenwriter and producers are on board and that it will be aired on AMC. That has given me a bit of confidence in its quality and will probably entice me to tune in.

Yeah, I'm on board if Pillegi is writing it and it looks like he is.

Goodfellas is tied for my fav movie of all time, and I think AMC can do this right.

AMC can pretty much do anything that HBO and Showtime does outside of F-words so I'm not too worried.

Looking forward to this for sure.

I'm not in the least bit sceptical, I am totally certain it will suck the donkeys hind leg.

Nothing good ever comes from these kind of lazy shortcut to an audiance ideas.

AMC is a funny channel that way. Gruesome violence is perfectly fine, but they draw the line at bad language.

Its gonna be great to see one of the characters slit anothers throat while saying "that's what you get when you fool with me!".

This show will never come close to the Sopranos, I am skeptical that anyone can really take a mob tv show to the level of quality of that show.

MASH the series wasn't fit to lick the movies jockstrap clean, it was dreadful, it was only redeemed by the fact that everything else on TV was worse.
Poking you eyes out with a stick was more entertaining and a hell of a lot less painfull than Mid seventies US TV.

And they'll do it in real time like "24". Expect the first few season to be slow.

Sopranos worked so well because it had an amazing central character. A man living two lives and struggling to balance them. The evolution of Tony from a somewhat likable guy who had good intentions to a disgusting piece of #### who only cared for himself was an amazing watch.

You're right, there will never be a show like the Sopranos again.

So I assume the show will take place in the 70's (60's?) then when Henry Hill was actually growing up? There also would be no discussion of drug dealing, as Hill did not start dealing until his later years.

I wonder if Ray Liotta is in consideration for DeNiro's role (Jimmy Conway)? Both are Irish and Liotta could probably use the work when looking at his recent filmography.
