I've had a few drinks in the St Louis tavern... what a dark and dingy place it was. I look forward to seeing the St Louis after its fully restored. Anybody know what its to become once its open again? I assume it will no longer be an operating hotel /tavern open to the public?

Thanks Rerun!

I was originally shooting the skyline and wasn't fast enough to change my settings on my camera.
I would of wanted more DOF / blur between the Geese and the skyline, but I'm quite happy with how this turned out.

Zoomed in at 300mm @ f/10 | ISO 200.

To achieve this effect, I was tracking (panning) the Geese as they flew across the skyline.
Moving my camera smoothly in the same direction that they were flying.

I'm looking to take a city scape photo of downtown calgary but with the mountains in the background. Anyone have any suggestions on where I can go to get the angle I need?

		 |

The NE has a really good angle on the mountains. The new 36th Street NE has a good view across the airport near 64th ave. It's pretty far so you would need a telephoto lens.

Pros: the scale between the city and the mountain. Only a few buildings (Bow, Petro and Bankers) rise above the mountain

cons: can't see the bottom half of downtown

The Calgary Skyline seen from above the Beaverdam Flats natural area.
The composition isn't the ideal, but I wanted to keep the section of gold and the higher cloud in the frame.

Using the Tungsten White Balance setting and bouncing the flash created some pretty vivid effects.

			No strobes. 1/500th @ 2500ISO. F2.8.

1/500th isn't ideal for high-level hockey, but it works. If I can push it to 1/800 at least, I usually do.

One rink has new lights put in, which is basically the equivalent of shooting in the dome. (The shot of the puck over the shoulder). The other rinks are dingy, low light but can still get some half decent shots. I shoot either on a ladder above the glass or on the bench.
