The whole freeze I have a gun thing only works in movies if someone enters the room that you're in and you're protecting a baby then you don't give them the benefit of the doubt that they're going to act rationally, and you don't make the assumption that you have the drop on him.

Not to be crude, but you eliminate the threat and secure against the next threat. And if you're going to shoot someone that's attacking you in your home, then you shoot center mass to put them down permanently.
I am not saying what she did was wrong, I am saying what she and they did was odd.
If you hear someone at the door trying to break in and you have a hand gun and a 12 guage you might wait a few seconds or minutes to see if they go away, but if it is clear they are going to get in and you arn't planning on hiding or running away then most anyone would shout at them, 'I have a gun and I have called the police' or something like that, not because it is for sure going to scare them off, but because it probably will scare them off and even if it doesn't you are no worse off. It is almost a natural reaction, like my dog puffing up his hair when he thinks hes going to fight. Hell if you were thinking clearly you would rack the gun by the door so they could hear it.

Secondly she apparently shots him not when he first enters but as he's advancing towards her inside the house with a knife, who the hell, in Oklahoma, sees a women with a 12 gauge and doesn't run like a #######?

The story doesn't make sense, I don't know why this mook felt clearly that she wouldn't call the cops or shoot him, but he obviously felt for some reason those options weren't open to her, he was wrong, but my guess is this was a hell of alot less random than it first appears.

On a lighter note, she is 18 her deceased husband was 58!

2 - I wouldn't say a peep if someone was trying to break into my house, shotgun in hand or not. I'd be quiet and pray they can't get in. Why would I announce what my defenses are and give away my location in the house? While that's the logical reasoning for staying quiet, my real reason would be I'd be too scared to make a sound.
So how would you stop your 3 week child from potentially crying? Surely that would give up your location anyways.

Actually when you look into it there are few things that don't quite make sense, he's 58 and dies of lung cancer a few months before clearly while heavily medicated, she has a 3 month old child, that's some ballsac.

It also appears to be a double wide trailer they were living in, and it doesn't take 20 minutes to break into one of those.

On further reading aparently the 'perp' had been aggresively kocking on the door of the trailer around 2pm, she had pushed the couch up against the door and he pushed it slightly open with his shoulder, this took place over 20 minutes in the middle of the afternoon, he knew she was in there, he would have seen the gun, this has dumb ass hillbilly domestic written all over it.

I suspect they may have realised Billie Bob's life was going to come to a bad end when he started doing the Oxy, I'm sure it didn't come as a huge suprise when he got shot.

WTF are you talking about? He died less than a week earlier on Christmas day. You just want something to be fishy.

The only thing we don't know is if she had a family guy/lethal weapon type of catchphrase.

I was thinking more along the lines of Gandalf's "You shall not pass"

Obviously I couldn't, but that doesn't mean I'll start screaming. Besides, I'd be too petrified to yell anyway. As I stated in my post, those reasons seem to be sound (or quiet if you will) but the over riding factor for me would be fear. Stay quiet and hope they don't get in and go away.

I also don't have a three week old child (not that I'm aware of anyway).

Interesting question, do you think that the baby at three weeks would be able to sense the tension and anxiety in the room and remain quiet? This is kind of off topic, I wonder if the baby was crying during the ordeal (I don't recall it being said in the article, but I easily could have missed it).

I am pointing out that a 58 year old man deep in the depths of terminal cancer while bombed out of his head on Oxycontin, an opiate based drug with all of opiates typical libido reducing qualities, got his 17/18 year old girlfriend pregnant. Now it isn't impossible, not all cancer is a year long disabling decent into painfull death, but lung cancer generally is.

I am also wondering aloud why it takes 20 minutes for this 'random stranger' to break into a mobile home, why he was knocking on the door for 20 minutes, presumably talking to her, asking her to open the door etc while she had time to push a couch in front of the door, get her guns, call the cops and then eventually shot him after he pushed his way into the house.

It sounds to me that they knew each other, that he was trying to get her to open the door and he got pissed when she refused. That she shot him is fine, he's obviously no loss to the gene pool, but I strongly suspect that she had a hell of alot more to do with the creep than she has said.
Knocking on a trailer door for 20 minutes that any 5 year old could push in is not the behaviour of a random junkie thief or rapist.

Considering there is another guy trying to get in that is still alive and in jail right now don't you think it would have come out by now if there was something like that going on?

It seems much more plausible that these guys were strung out/doped up morons who weren't thinking like you or I would in the same situation and that is why a. they didn't leave at the threat of guns/cops and b. were less than stellar at getting into the place.

That is possible, but I have a lifetimes experiance working with strung out thieves and this is odd behaviour by their standards, generally if you are going to do a house you knock on the front door, no one answers and there isn't a dog you go round the back and kick in the back door, takes about 20 seconds.
Its the time involved that doesn't add up, strung out or not you dont spend 20 minutes knocking on a door.

Maybe he saw her picture in the death announcement or heard a rumor and saw a vulnerable piece of a$$ and decided to have some fun with her.

That was me.

Reflecting on it, she also had time to order a pizza.

That said, if you are being attacked in your own home, I wouldn't recommend that as your first course of action.

Unless you're really hungry.
