Default Travel Vacation advice

Hey CP faithful, thought I would start a thread for some information and advice. I am looking to get away sometime in the near future(next week or next month). Normally around this time of the year, I would go somewhere with girlfriend at the time. However this year, I am wanting to go on a solo trip without my current GF. As I would rather go by myself, especially since I think Id have more fun that way this trip.

Of the possible all inclusive vacation spots, what would you recommend. I would like to relax, party a bit, nice beach, as well as a place where there are some mid 20s to mid 30s women and eye candy too. Of the following would you suggest Cuba, Mexico, Jamaica, Dominican? Or any other suggestions.

Cost is a consideration as well. Shall one always look for at least 4 star?

I love traveling solo, but I think I'd get lonely at an all inclusive place. I've yet to meet a solo traveler who regretted staying in a hostel. I've heard very good things about the one on Isla Mujeres near Cancun.

What's the over under on your GF flipping out on you after this trip?

I would second the suggestion of staying in a hostel instead of an all-inclusive, much more conducive to meeting people and having a great time.

Go to Australia, stay in Sydney or Byron Bay at a hostel, meet loads of women. Never think of an all inclusive again.

Haha beat me to it. Awesome. How bout just going as a single man and not having the moral dilemma, since its pretty clear what the purpose of the trip is.

You're gonna be single within 10min of getting back home anyway, why not just make a pre-emptive strike and enjoy your trip guilt-free?

EDIT: And I'd lean more Mexico than Cuba. Was in Cuba a couple years ago, awesome place, but I found most resorts way more family/couples friendly than Mexico. If you want a cheap trip with lots of single girls who wanna party, just go to Cancun & git er done at all the clubs there. Keep in mind U.S. spring break is coming up next month. Americans don't really go to Cuba.

Single, party, beaches, women, cheap...

Banana Bungalow Maui...

Its the best party hostel I have stayed at, and quite clean. Also did I mention the large abundance of European women?... Its not close to a beach, a 20 minute bus ride. But its a great party atmosphere.

I will also suggest Rio Guest House Barbados. I went three times in 2011. Its right across the street from an amazing beach, warmest water I have ever swam in. Its also located in "The Gap" which is where all the bars are. You find mostly British vacationers, in turn very good looking women. Its incredibly cheap, clean, basic accommodation. $5 American for 6 pack of good Banks beer.

Those would be my two suggestions for cheap, and going alone.

But you can't really go wrong anywhere, if there is a beach, and hostel.

I would avoid the all inclusive though. Boring as a single young guy. Hostels is where the fun happens.

what about a Sandals or Hedonism (two places I have never been) - although I'd suspect that you'd have to pay extra when going as a single....and I am assuming that the G/F would not be keen on Hedonism......

Thanks for all the advice guys, CP is a great place. I will look into hostels, however what is the quality of accommodation at a hostel? Normally in NA I like to stay at 4 star type hotels. So my concern is that I still like amenities that come with a nice or decent hotel. Hedonism seems nice, but yes, that is stretching it.

As far as those asking how my gf thinks of this. She wasnt happy at first, however I basically told her that I want to go on a solo vacation or one with the boys and informed her I am going regardless. We have been together for about 2 years or so. Just at a point in my life, I am not sure what direction I want us to go. Heck, if she wanted to do that same, Id say go.

If after the trip she wants to end it for that reason, so be it. Its ok with me. As of now she is ok with it. Obviously I didnt say to her I wanted to go to a place with some nice eye candy. In my opinion, until I am married, pretty much will do what I want as I am an adult and make my own decisions. Some may not agree with me, but that is my motto for my life.

Thanks again for the advice. But those that mentioned australia, is it a good place to go for just a week though? I also didnt mention, the reason why I thought of Cuba or place such as that, is that I want to bring a few bags of school supplies and bring it to a school to give to the less fortunate kids.

Well at a hostel, you will get a bed. lol

If you are seeking 4 star accommodation with the amenities, you wont find that at most hostels in North America.

I wouldn't do Australia for a week. Think of travel time to get there, days lost.

I would stick to the Americas, or even some of Europe. You can get to Amsterdam or London direct from Calgary making a week very comfortable.

If you are wanting cheap/beach though, and are set on a 4 star hotel, look at the cheap destinations. Mexico, Cuba, Dominican.

There are poor kids/families everywhere that could benefit from you bringing some stuff to them. Awesome gesture, I respect that. Check out customs policies before you do it though.

Honestly though, no better time in life to try out a hostel. Ya the beds may not be to comfy, and the bathrooms you share, unless you have a private on suite. But you will drink enough to make it comfortable, and the people at hostels are always great! Meet so many people from all over the world, its always a good time. If you are in your 20s 30s and have never stayed at one, you should try it out.

stay in a hostel the first few nights, hotel the last few nights...

How is this possible?

Don't go to Cuba, their country is so backwards and every place except the beach is a run down POS.

True with the older generation. Not so much the new generation.

Whats the point in telling someone not to go to a place because you didn't enjoy it? Let them decide for themselves. I know countless people who absolutely love Cuba.

I suggest you watch this episode of departures and then ask yourself how much of Cuba you actually saw?

Was the run down pos your resort, one city, or did you spend a few months exploring the entire country?...

I dislike this comment by people.
