Default Getting back into Rugby

Anyone know if any of the clubs have a beginner league? Or anyplace in the city for that matter. I haven't played since high school and I'd kind of like to get back into it, as something different then the usual summer hockey

Most clubs have a 3rd division team and those teams are still competitive, but a lot more forgiving. You could get a good run around there and if you play well you could always move up. What part of the city are you in?

Forgot to add that there is a touch league that I might go out for in the spring. That could be an option if the contact is a concern (although I doubt it if you're looking for a rugby team!)

I'm in the NE. I emailed the Irish, but haven't heard back. I thought the Div 3 was right about where I should be, but I wasn't sure

I played for the Irish for many years, and so does/did one or two other guys on here (I'll let them out themselves).
Great club, and the 3rd division team has some great guys on it.

There won't be a lot of activity going on there right now so they might not get back to you right away, but they're always willing to bring new guys into the fold, especially if they have some experience.

Good luck....unless you go to the Hornets, in which case you can go @#$% yourself.

My brother-in-law just got back into rugby after 7 years away...one game, essentially exploded his shoulder, just had surgery #3 to remove some of the added metal from in there.

That said, he wasn't in the best shape, and i doubt his "game sense" was that great. you'll do awesome, but unfortunately I have no good advice.

Rugby is awesome, all the best man, have a blast!

From my experience, clubs will intake anyone willing to play, they will have proper divisions to play you in that match to your ability.

I have had a great time with the Calgary Canucks in olympic park

My only advice is try to get yourself into decent shape before you go out. I didn't follow that advice and did my back pretty good, although it was one of those injuries that might have happened regardless of the shape I was in. I'd love to be able to play, but showing up at work with black eyes may hamper my career.

Saracens are way better than the Irish! (apologies to Boblobla here...I had you pegged as a Canuck for some strange reason)

I remember my uncle got back into rugby after several years away. First game, tore both his ACLs (and MCLs I think), and was in a wheelchair for 2 months!

If by "better" you mean a a guy who hasn't played since highschool could probalby walk onto their 1st div team, then yeah, I suppose the Saracens are way better than the irish.

The best part about Div 3 is rolling subs. It is still competitive, but you can sub on and off as you are sucking wind.

I destroyed my knee and my shoulder playing Rugby in High School and we sucked.

I think if I were to ever get back into it, the touch option would be appealing.

Dammit Slava, what are you doing playing Rugby after bailing on the softball team?

I'm coming back to softball this year actually! I can't play rugby anymore though, its too hard on my body. I actually played touch a few years ago with what I assume is the same crew they have now. It was a good run around and a lot of fun, but without the contact. I would really like to get out for that this summer, but we'll see.

Rugby (even touch) is a sport. Softball is a good excuse to hang-out and have a beverage or two....with a few tiny bursts of exercise thrown in.
