I can't find the "remote recording" option to set up my Iphone recording app. Anyone know what's wrong? I followed the steps and it's not there.

It's on the telus.com website when you log into your account. You set it up from there, not directly on STB.

Okay thanks I'll try that way, but the app tells me to use my remote so hopefully your way works too.

puckluck here's what I did:
On my TV telus menu I went to Optik Account (or something similar) under menu>Settings.
It asks you to enter an email address. I entered mine.
It sends you an email with a confirmation code to set up your account.
Then I DL'd both the remote viewing and the remote recording apps.
You need to activate your account using the remote recording app, so I did that. At some point when setting up you'll need that confirmation code from the email they sent you.
After that you can log in remote to either app on your phone.
I don't know if any of that helps....

I realize blackberry isn't the popular choice anymore and all that, but for the Telus guys, will Optik on the Go get a BB app? Website right now just shows the download for apple and android.

Anyone using the XBOX 360 as a digital box? It's now to the point where I can't even watch a recorded show. I get the 'recording not available, make sure this digital box is connected to the network' and then it has to restart. Could happen 2 mins in, or 8 mins in, but I just know that at some point I have to start it all over.
Can't believe how bogged down everything is now compared to when I first got it in Oct 2010.
This sort of crap makes me think back to good old non-digital tv. Never had to deal with any of this on the trusty 22" CRT.
Enough bitching from me, anyone else finding this once great system has now become a huge chore?

Haha, yes. My post history in this thread indicates a long and painful decent into anger with Telus.
One thing I've found is that using the main PVR box is the only way to go. All the other boxes suck and have issues.
Even then, last night my main PVR box crashed and hasn't recovered since. Although it could be a modem issue because my wifi is now down too. Either way all I get is a giant red x whenever I turn on the main box.

So depressing, I know there was mention of an update or upgrade to resolve/minimize this issue, any updates on that? All I get from Telus is to unplug the unit for 10 seconds, plug it back in....etc.

so glad i went back to Shaw. with their new internet speeds and bundle pricing, they're killing Telus again in both product and price

That's actually surprising, you comparing the Gateway or the Motorola DCX3400?
I know the internet speed and availability of service for Shaw is a clear winner, but I am surprised that the Gateway in its current (and reportedly buggy) state is better than Optik TV.

You can also unplug the box 3 times and it'll do a full restart. You should see a cog turning instead of just the three dots.
An update is expected from microsoft in the new year according to the telus reps I've spoken to.

My telus brings down data at 40mbps per second, all the time. When I was on gateway I was lucky if I could get 20mbps during the hours of 3pm-11pm.
When I switched a channel with the gateways system i was lucky if it changed in under 5 seconds.
I am not saying Shaw sucks in general im just saying in my area it is not the best choice. I didn't know shaw came down in pricing when i left Shaw I was paying $60 less a month on telus for the exact same service.

My girlfriend and I switched to Optik at the end of September.
Happy with the service provided (I.E. the TV and Internet), but what I have a huge problem with, is their free laptop.
They told me we would get it in 4 weeks maximum, and if we did not receive it by then, we should call in and they would escalate it and make sure it comes 2 weeks after that.
We waited the 4 weeks and nothing, so we called and somehow it was never ordered and that this time it would be 4-6 weeks. The CSR would call us back within 48 hours to verify (never happened). We called back in 48 hours and they said it was ordered and it will be coming.
I should note each time the best answer they initially offered was "keep checking your email," until we told them our background and persisted they address it.
We called back after another 6 weeks and still no laptop or shipping notice. So in total it had been 12 weeks and not even a sign of our laptop. Called back and they assured us we still qualified (thanks, as of course we did) and there is a problem with HP getting some parts and it would come, and to just wait. They refused to escalate it at this point.
So we are over 12 weeks now and still not even a sign the thing is coming, and no goodwill credits or apologies offered, just rudeness (which I will admit responding to, in kind). They have been extremely useless in resolving our situation.
I will be calling cancellations in the hope they will address this.
Needless to say it has been a very frustrating process to receive the free laptop.

Just a note: If you cancel your contract before receiving your laptop you would still need to pay out the cancellation fee for early contract termination, and probably reduce their incentive to actually get you a laptop. They would still 'owe' it to you of course.
You have to wonder though, why would you want a year old laptop, that was probably a year or so old in terms of technology when they started the promotion. Don't they offer a tablet promo now? I would just try and get them to switch your laptop for that.

I figured they would come after me for that.
Is this not a breach of contract though? I only signed up for the service based on this, and that was the whole reason for the commitment. If they do not deliver surely the contract isn't valid. Granted I suppose they could counter that they have 3 years to deliver as I don't believe there is a set date specified in the contract.

We signed up beginning of November, and I've been trying to track down my laptop as well. They said it went through December 30th, and should be here second week in January. I know we ordered ours a lot later then you, but maybe they are sending them all out at once... just a thought!

Have a problem with my set top box in the master bedroom. It skips like crazy when I try to watch a recorded show, kind of like watching a badly scratched DVD. Last time I chatted with an online rep and they were able to address the issue, but the problem has resurfaced.
Anyone else experience this? Otherwise, the service has been great with Telus.

Your best bet is to call in another trouble. Your STB could be on its way out.
