I would stay downtown, since it is close to everything. You will be cabbing it everywhere on Macloed. Best areas to stay near is 17th ave, 8th ave, Kensington, Eau Claire, in that order.
With that said, Hotel Arts, Le Germain, Hyatt, Westin are all good choices. Check Hotwire.com for a deal.
I would say Hotel Arts is best bet for proximity to everything (Dome, Bars, 17th, Flames Central, etc)
I would also mention the Fairmont, but IMO it is an overpriced dump. Maybe if you get an awesome deal stay there. Le Germain is prob the same price, and is a super nice hotel if that is your style.

All the above a good choices...
But truly, don't you want to make your trip to Calgary a really memorable experience?
With that in mind, I recommend a stay at a Calgary historic landmark... The Cecil Hotel.
Its right downtown where all the action is yet within a walkable distance to the Saddledome.

It's also been boarded up and closed for at least a year now.

Whenever I go to Calgary, Sheraton Eau Claire is where I stay. I can't say it's better or worse than any other hotel in Calgary, because I haven't been to any, but the Sheraton was fantastic. The hotel bar is fine, there's a couple restaurants well within walking distance and it's a couple minute walk to the train to get to the game.

Son of a b***h!
All the great ones are gone now... the King Eddy, the St Louis, and now the Cecil! I'll miss those terry cloth table tops in the tavern.
Please tell me that the York Hotel and the St Regis Hotel are still up and running?

On top of that, it's usually the hotel where the visiting team stays, so you might bump into a Devil or two.

I stayed there a few years ago for a company Christmas party. Its a nice place. Had fun in the irish pub (forget the name) on the main floor too.
I believe every guest room is set up as a suite.
Two thumbs up!

If I could recommend a spot it would be something that is walking distance to the saddledome, that way you can party at the casino afterwards but still don't have to take the infested train back to your hotel afterwards.
There are a number of hotels within walking distance. On a cold day, I would say anything south of 8th ave is walk able so that would mean the Hyatt, Le Germain, the Palliser, and Hotel arts (not sure if I forgot any here).

Wow, you guys are a bit too high class for me.
A hotel is where you sleep. If you don't want to spend too much time there, just book something cheap like the Holiday Inn on MacLeod (short C-Train ride to the dome), or even the Sandman Downtown (again, C-Train line and a couple blocks from a lot of the downtown watering holes).

Even though I live in Calgary, I went to a wedding at Hotel Arts last summer and stayed in one of their rooms. I was satisfied with everything. And its close to 17th ave and the dome. I would recomend this

When I stay in Calgary it's usually at the Radisson hotel right beside the Calgary tower. Nice rooms and not too pricey - they generally have some pretty good specials this time of year. You are right downtown, close to the dome and Flames Central. Nice little pub/restaurant and coffee shop right in the lobby. I ran into Doug Maclean in the pub there once.
Edit: Sorry, it's not the Radisson it's the Marriott!

Plus the Sheraton is two blocks from all the hookers and the Maid. I see why you stay there.

Innnnteresting. LOL. Thanks for all the input folks! I think I'm going to give Hotel Arts a go, seems to be best priced out of the "nice" ones.
Thanks again!
