Modding an Xbox 360

I've been reading all over twitter and facebook today that a bunch of people are flashing their xbox with LT 3.0

What exactly are the benefits of doing this and have any of you done it?

I believe for flashing drive's its only done for pirating (well.."backup") games.

I wouldn't do it, most who do this get banned from Xbox live.

No I have no interest in doing it at all. I just read a couple posts that claimed this new update is the 'silver bullet' and can't get be detected by XBL and I was wondering how this works and what % of users actually roll the dice.

Pirating software is one of the most risky things you can do as far as opening yourself up to malicious software, but still sometimes I can't bring myself to dump down $50 on a game that might be total garbage.

More than once I have fallen prey to the "Oh that looks awesome" - only to play it 3 times and never touch the box again.

That said, if I end up playing it for a few days, it gets bought.

The only reason I'd mod my Xbox360 is if I wanted to nerd out and screw around with it's insides. I'd only mod an older device that was not connected to my xbox live account.

So my advice, don't mod your main device - go buy a used xbox and mess about with that.

And if you're doing it to play pirated games, just don't. Pirating is lame.
