Default Android e-mail apps...

I picked up a Galaxy S for the wife for Xmas.

How do I add her two shaw e-mail accounts and what is the best app for e-mail...

I am a BB user and very very new to Android phones...

Thanks.

Pretty sure the instructions are in this thread, that I made a few months back.

Otherwise, I'll just post them in a sec. I need to find my guide on my PC.

Ok, so the original link with instructions from Shaw that I have, is dead.

Luckily I saved the instructions on Word document. Here it is.

With this you'll be able to access your SHAW e-mail on your ANDROID (send and receive).

Setting up Shaw e-mail on Android

All this information is from: https://wmbeta.shaw.ca/doc/offnet-de...tructions.html <--link is DEAD.

Setting up SHAW e-mail on ANDROID with ANY mobile service.

Shaw e-mail setup:

1.Go to: https://signon.shaw.ca/
2. Click on SHAWWEBMAIL
3. Log into your e-mail
4. Click on PREFERENCES on the top right side of the page.
5. Click on the tab that says MOBILE ACCESS
6. Next to MOBILE ACCESS click ENABLE.
7. Enter your e-mail password to make sure it’s strong enough
8. Click SAVE at the bottom

Android setup:
  1. Select the Application icon.
  2. Select Email icon.
  3. If this is your first email account you will be presented with an email setup screen. Otherwise, press the Menu button, and tap the 'Add Account' button.
  4. In the Type your account email address box, enter your full email address.
  5. In the second box, enter your email account password.
  6. Select the Manual setup button.
  7. Choose the POP3 account button.
  8. Enter the following information in the spaces provided:
    1. Username - Enter your full email address.
    2. Password - Enter your email account password.
    3. POP server - pop.shaw.ca
    4. Port - 110
    5. Security type - None
  9. Select Next. The device will connect to the internet and check your incoming settings.
  10. On the Outgoing server settings screen, enter the following information in the spaces provided:
    • SMTP server - mail.shaw.ca
    • Port - 587
    • Security - TLS (accept all certificates)
Note: Ensure Port is still 587.
  1. Select Require sign-in checkbox.
  2. In the Username box, enter your full email address.
  3. In the Password box, enter your email account password.
  4. Select the Next button. The device will connect to the Internet and check your outgoing settings.
  5. On the Account options screen, select your Email checking frequency.
Note: Changing frequency will impact battery life.
  6. Under Notify me when email arrives checkbox to see an alert on the status bar when you have new email.
  7. Name your account as desired.
  8. Enter your name as you want it displayed in email.
Your e-mail, when sent from your Android phone, will now appear to be sent from your Shaw e-mail address. Just like on BlackBerry!

Merry Christmas!

BTW: I can't take all the credit for this. BlackArcher101 was the one that originally posted the instructions in the thread I made.

Cheers to him!

Awesome response...Thanks...

Is this only for Internet access or will it use the cell network as well ?

As for the second part...Is there a better e-mail app than the one that comes with the Galaxy S ?

Works over wifi and internet for me. So as long as you're connected, you'll be good to go.

As for apps...no idea. I just use the on board e-mail app. I have something like 7 e-mail addresses coming to my Android. It's nice that it gives each one a colour and organizes it for you.

I'm trying to find how to get mobile access and I don't see a preferences tab. Where do I toggle mobile access now?
