I'm so paranoid of scams that i even had to look up a citi financial toll free number on-line to make sure it was a legit number before giving them verfication information.

I bet you have a Trojan now, unless they already got all the info they needed ( ie personal/password/contact list) - They didn't 'get disconnected' , they got what they needed done, and hung up.
The minimum I would do in a situation like yours is scan for viruses. Ideally, I would nuke and rebuild - you never know what kind of backdoor has been installed that won't come up on a malware scan. This happened to my grandparents, and I rebuilt both of their machines for them to be safe.

How could they have got what they needed? I didn't do anything over the phone except check my msconfig and go to the ammyy.com homepage but not click on any links there.
I think they hung up because I clearly wasn't being uncooperative and asking them all sorts of probing questions like 'so who exactly are you?'

Ahh, then you are fine. I read what you wrote as you had opened up an Ammyy Admin session and then got disconnected.

I'm not sure if you're trying to troll us..
If you're serious, how the heck did you not get taken advantage of by a "Nigirian Prince"?

I got a call from Microsoft a while back and I started to have some fun with the guy as I thought he was telling me there was a problem with my windows in my house.....later on in the call I told him I was running the beta version of windows red. I hear him speaking to someone in the back ground and he then hung up.
The fact he called from a 999 area code also tipped me off........

I love the phishing email addresses that scammers use. Like Microsoft tech support or RBC banking would be using Yahoo mail accounts.
By the way, the next time somebody calls about trojans just pretend to be confused and start talking about condoms to them. "Why do I need a Trojan when I look up Amy on my computer?"

I just got off the phone with the lovely people running this scam.
ANT Software Solutions was the name of the company, they're located in Ontario Tower, when I pressed for what the address was so I could mail the guy a Christmas Card for helping me (literally said that) he couldn't tell me, then he didn't know what city he was in. When I told him I found this dis-concerning he told me
Then he hung up.
This was about a half hour or so. My brother was trying not to laugh his arse off while listening to me, he was even nice enough to make me coffee as he was entertained.
Remember folks, if you get this REPORT IT. The number they gave me Phonebusters didn't have yet, it was just activated. So reporting can do some good.

Must be included.
You have to get them to tell you what they're wearing.
You have to use the line "wait, I'm almost there"
You have to finish up with "oh god, oh god your service is making me paint the ceiling"
|
Wow, Captain. Just wow.

I had so much fun, I regret not recording the conversation, and that they hung up before I could take the vulgarity to the next level.
