Question Creative Inspire T7700 7.1 Speakers Issue

Hey all,

I'm running my 7.1 Creative Inspire T7700 speakers on my Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 Soundcard, I've been running this set-up for 3-4 years.

Recently I disconnected the wires from the subwoofer connecting directly to the computer to use as a audio cable for my laptop downstairs to connect to our TV.

Anyway, last night I went to hook everything back up as it was before and I can no longer get sound coming out of the speakers, I've put everything back exactly as it was before (at least I think) and nada...no sound. When I CRANK the dial I can hear hissing and this weird garble sound coming from the speakers but in general no sound that should be coming out is coming. I've fiddled around with the wires etc. and at best all I'll get is if I place only the centre speaker wire in both the subwoofer and the computer than I get a loud humming.

One other thing I have noticed (which somehow I didn't before) is that my soundcard supports 4 wire inputs...and the wire that came stock with the speakers was a 3:4 wire, therefore one wire input was always missing (i.e. 4 wires connected to the subwoofer but only 3 connected back into the soundcard on the computer)...I'm surprised I never noticed this but that is the case, at any rate I can get a 4:4 wire to fix that for the future or another wire to connect 1:1 appropriately in addition.

But can anyone figure why I'm getting this issue? As I said I literally disconnected it for 3 days and when I went to put it back into place, no more sound after it worked for years with no apparent issue.

Any help would be most appreciated, thanks!

I had an issue where the realtek audio manager changed the input (after I unplugged the cables). My speakers are a 6.1 analogue setting and it switched to digital.

I unplugged my sub once and blew it, which also held the internal logic for the tweeters and volume & bass controls and I had to dump that set. It's a freak occurrence but not impossible.

If this happened, would I still hear that weird hissing/garbled sound eminating from the speakers when I crank up the volume? (With or without anything playing on the computer)

Hmm I do have Realtek Audio Mgr as well, I'll take a look into this as well.
