The whole Darvish thing was totally out of his hands but turned out to be a bit of a PR nightmare. 4 days of the fanbase getting hyped up after numerous bogus articles about them winning and then losing out.

The winter meetings thing I think was a little poorly managed. The team is basically Boras's pawn by not commenting, which is fine if you hold the line, but then they do come out and rather than quash rumors, they dump all over their fanbase's optimism that they will finally spend a few bucks as a means of shooting Boras down - bad stuff I thought.

Well I hope AA has a plan to acquire one of the other available SPs over the next few days. Sucks that we will have to give up some prospects though.

So will we ever know officially, outside of AA disclosing, if, and what the Jays bid?

Might leak - but I doubt it...

These are the same fans that complain about paying to see a .500 baseball team for half the price of going to see a less then .500 hockey team that sells out every game. I don't have patience for fans like that, complaining about the Jays not going after Fielder.

Beeston's comments lacked a little foresight, but the fact is the Jays have been moving forward at a very strong pace since AA took over. There's still a lot of reasons to be optimistic about the upcoming season.

And for all the people that want the most commercial and knee jerk reactions by the Jays going out and just throwing money around like crazy, saying they'll go games then. I seem to remember the JP era with BJ Ryan, AJ Burnett, Troy Glaus, Frank Thomas, big name free agent after big name free agent, and it's not like the Rogers Center was close to being full every night.

Tough pill to swallow but I still believe this team is building something special.

It's ok, the Jays will just continue building. They weren't going to pay over 50 million just to talk to a guy.

I guess the only bright spot is that Rogers' cellphone and tv subscribers will not have significant increases in their rates.

The Jays get the money back if Darvish doesn't sign.

The money never left their pockets... If there is one good part to Darvish signing in Texas - it eliminates the Rangers from the Fielder sweepstakes (as far as I am concerned), and lessens Boras' bargaining power in terms of teams interested. Food for thought - gotta be a positive out of this somewhere.

I Still find it extremely hard to believe that we are seriously going after Fielder. I hope I'm wrong, but I think Lind will be the starter at 1B on opening day.

The Rangers didn't make a competitive offer for Wilson, from what I've read they basically said to him "if you want to play here let us know, otherwise you'll make more money in the open market and best of luck"

Darvish >>> Wilson, Darvish hasn't proven that he can't pitch in the playoffs (and this is coming from a guy who is a big CJ Wilson fan)

I do too - but the less people in on Fielder, the less likely of a team tossing a 10 year contract out as well. I think we are all safe in saying that money is not an issue for Anthopolous, judging by the money tossed to Darvish's post... If you can get the term down to 6 years, you never know. Like you said, probably never going to happen - but one less team bidding, sure can't hurt.

Think the best thing about Texas winning the Darvish bid is that it takes one of the Jays major competitors out of the trade market for Starters. The price is still going to be crazy if Latos was any indication but at least it gives the shoppers slightly more leverage.

It's not being a sore loser or anything, but I'm not completely devistated at the Jays not winning the bid. I can't help but think of the crazy price when all is said and done. I think, like Dice K, where players have never seen a him before and scouting is scarce on what to expect, he'll be great (at least 15 wins) his first year, but once scouting is up to par and teams get pretty accurate reports on how to beat him, it'll be interesting to see how adjusts his game. It stinks that they'll have to deal a prospect or two, but the Jays have some pretty nice players like Snider and Lind (pretty large upsides, though I'm a bit skeptical of AA selling at a low). I'm personally not even sure this is the year to go for it even though guys like Darvish and Prince are pieces that would fit in nice, the Jays are still a little of a step behind when it comes to having players who are clutch, and I think they need to develop that internally before they make huges moves to win it all.

I'm just listening to the Fan590 and fan's expectations are absolutely ridiculous. I'm all up for ripping ownership on all the Toronto teams, but if the Jays put in a bid for $50M and these idiots are saying ownership is not serious about winning, I have no idea what they expected the Jays to throw out there. IT'S $50M! Others are saying guys they can trade for like Gio Gonzalez are overrated, while most of these guys have never even seen the guy play. I get really annoyed by some of these guys they allow on these call in shows.
