Icon40 Busy weekend in Steeltown.

Sitting in the middle of the playoff race; dropping down the standings with lackluster results the Pens experienced a little déjà vu from last season’s horrible collapse. Sitting on a boat load of assets and the most depth this team has ever seen it was decided that these assets and this depth had to be sacrificed to save the season. A lineup that boasted one of the more stacked forward corps on paper sat in 17th in goals per game. That is not good enough. It was time to make some moves and pay the needed price to change the dynamic of this team.

Deal 1:
To Jackets
Anze Kopitar
Loui Eriksson
Erik Gundbranson

To Penguins
Steven Stamkos

This was a huge price to pay. Kopitar is one of my favorite NHL players. However in my opinion Stamkos is the best goal scorer in the NHL today. So in order to get a player like that the price is a hefty one. We are happy to have Stamkos moving forward.

Deal 2:
To Canadiens
Tomas Plekanec
Wayne Simmonds
Nino Niederreiter
2013 4th

To Penguins
Pavel Datsyuk
Jerred Smithson
Rocco Grimaldi

Once again we paid the needed price to bring in a great talent. Plekanec is a great 2 way player, but in my opinion Datsyuk is the best in the game. He can shut guys down and hit 90pts. Nino is a great prospect but we actually have a soft spot for Rocco who is a long shot to make it, but an underdog that I like to cheer on.

All in all our roster depth and prospect pool took a hit, but we feel that our top end talent improved and hopefully we can start lighting the red light on a more consistent basis.

Thanks to MJK and Fraggle for the talks because as big as these 2 deals were they fell into place pretty quickly.

Yeah at no point during the negotiations did I feel good about moving Datsyuk, nor do I feel great about it now. This deal is all about the future for us. Next year we will struggle to fit our salaries under the cap, so it makes sense to me to move an older star like Datsyuk for two guys whose salaries put together fall $2 million shy of Datsyuk's.

Niederreiter is a great prospect we are very glad to pick up, while Grimaldi is....5'6". We wish him all the best, but didn't like how high risk he is to bust. Not to mention his views on women and their bodies. We in Montreal are strong supporters of women's right to show off their bodies if they so choose, and want players to feel good about bringing their wives to the games and team events wearing as little as they choose.

Simmonds is good. I like him.

Smithson was not doing great in Montreal, was about to lose his roster spot, and bought me a draft pick.

Patrick Sharp will be happy about moving up from the third line.

I may have just been taken in by my compulsion to trade and negotiate whenever deals are suggested or players are made available.

edit: Oh, and Plekanec. He's pretty good. Montreal's top scorer. Not old. Not too ridiculous of a contract. We would be THRILLED if the opportunity to replace Datsyuk with someone else came by soon.

I would make the exact same deal right now. In order to bring in an elite player you need to pay the price. I don't regret what I paid even the slightest bit.

You don't have to explain yourself to me or justify your actions.

I think it's a huge overpayment, especially in a sim that typically punishes teams for getting younger.

Anyone else think that Ryan disappeared a long time ago and that Dave is pretending to be him and is running 2 teams? Ryan was a great guy and then it seems like overnight his personality completely changed and he is now acting exactly like Dave and doing "Dave" things.

Just some food for thought.

Its probably true. I didn't want to mention it though because people might notice that I stole the old LA GMs sign in!

Dude. I like that you're still interested in the league and value hearing your opinion on things. Taking shots at Dave in every post, though, is friggin' annoying. There is nothing to be gained by continuing this feud. Please stop.

It wasn't a shot, it's my own speculation. I'm not insulting anyone. Btw my last post about Dave in the trade thread with Ravi has a very clear compliment to Dave in it.

In addition, if you don't like what someone posts, put them on ignore. I really don't care what annoys you. Who do you think you are that I should listen to anything you say nevermind do what you tell me?

BJ, you have made it pretty apparent that you have nothing else amusing in your life other than this league, and from the bottom of my heart I feel bad for you because it was taken away from you.

However, I think you are missing the point of why you were removed from this league. I am fairly sure that it was not Grant's plan to have you coming in here and posting more of your vitriol after being fired. Please stop, you are embarrassing yourself, as well as the GMs in this league who actually have something to say other than negativity.

Your food for thought is rotten. Please keep it to yourself.

Condescending much? Get over yourself, if you had anything else amusing in your life you wouldn't be so interested in taking shots at me and posting about things I have to say.

Btw Grant can speak for himself, I don't care what you think the plans of others are. Being a GM in a sim league doesn't entitle you to speak to me the way you have over the last while.

I stand by my prior request for a sticky a thread for all things bj/Mjk/rizzle. 4 times today I hoped there were meaningfull contributions to this topic only to find this same old bs.

For the sake of the other 27 gms (28 now) can someone take the high road and just ignore provoking statements.

I'm enjoying all these trades. It's helping me figure out trade values

or helping me figure out who to swindle

one of the two

Not sure if you have noticed but I have yet to post anything negative in this thread at all...please don't drag me into this just because my name has been brought up.

I am staying clear.

Thanks.

Lol. Add Nick to that list too, how did you forget him?!

If Grant would have just fired the lot of us a long time ago this wouldn't have been an issue for you.
