Well Dave has been harassing me for 2-3 weeks now at least so finally we were forced to give in and move Stamkos. It sucks losing him and his amazing contract next summer but we felt this was too good of a deal to pass up. Here is how this 9 player trade breaks down.
To CBJ:
Steven Stamkos
Chris Pronger
Lee Stempniak
Marty Turco
To ANA:
Ryan Getzlaf
Ryan Suter
Ted Purcell
Ray Emery
Brayden Schenn
cap (once I get the cheese space)
This should definitely shake the foundation of our roster. Hopefully in a good way. So many moving pieces in this deal but at the end of the day we did it because Pronger is nuts and a guy I don't feel good about giving a UFA deal to in the summer so to be able to replace him with Ryan Suter is enormous. We feel Suter is an elite D-man and adds to a very strong young core already consisting of Doughty and Weber.
Stamkos is definitely on his own level and is way better then Getz. Hopefully Schenn can recover from his concussion and make up some of the difference. But the Suter-Pronger swap helps out big time. The other assets in this deal were largely for cap purposes although we do like Purcells upside. Emery-Turco was just done in case Marty retires we did not want to be on the hook for that 2 million in cap space.
Thanks to MJK for the talks, it took a while but they were fun and we finally got a deal done!

Wow. I expected Stamkos to cost a lot, but that's a huge return for Ravi. Turco sure didn't last long there, eh?
edit: on second look, it's not as bad. I just don't value Prongs super highly right now given his NHL status.

Stamkos is the key here. We believe he is a top 3 player in the world. Pronger is a plug for the rest of this season, he won't be getting $10mill from me. We like the immediate upgrade on RW with Stempniak over Purcell and the goalie swap was nothing major but i agreed to it because Emery stinks and has only won one game.
We added Stamkos without having to move anyone from our top line which is on of the best in the league. Mike Richards will remain on the 1st line and will keep scoring there. We'll see what Stamkos can do on the 2nd.
Thanks Ravi for finally giving in and trading me Stamkos and that great contract!

Thats a great trade! I think that its fairly even but there are a lot of moving parts for sure.
I can't believe you traded him though Ravi. He's been scoring and shown some bright points. He could still have a career high in goals although he would have to pick the pace a little). I'm talking Stempniak of course...clearly he was the hardest player for you to move here!
I do wonder about Pronger in general. Its so early for them to say that hes shutdown for the year and for a guy at his age who has done it all I can't help but wonder if he hands 'em up.

Not that my opinion matters, but I think this deal favors Ravi, not by a ton though.
That being said, I appreciate that Dave has always been willing to go further than most GMs to get what he wants; one of the few GMs who will look through rosters to target players and go after them instead of sitting around and waiting for everyone else to make offers like many GMs do.
The league would be more exciting if there were more GMs like this; of course I have to caveat that by saying it would only be more exciting if their GMing style was like Dave's but that they didn't act like a total a$$hole.
That's about the best I can do for a compliment.

Rumor has it that Stamkos was intercepted at the airport and will not be heading to Columbus after all
