Funny for sure, but they're the "Nippon Ham" Fighters...not the "ham fighters".

They're sponsored by 'Nippon Ham'.

You see corporate naming in sports around the world from time to time - there's that austrian soccer team named after Red Bull (NY MLS now too) and the best one I've ever heard of was a Firestone basketball team called the Akron Firestone Non-Skids...

Weird that you don't see it more in the J-League too.

Anyway, really hope the Post is right even though it's the Post and that story is probably totally made up. Sucks they are waiting right until the deadline to accept, wonder why.

BTW Darvish last pitched on October 29 in Game 1 of the first round of the Japan Playoffs

http://bis.npb.or.jp/eng/2011/games/s2011102901794.html

..........IP BF H BB HB SO ER
Darvish 7 24 4 0 0 7 1

He left the game after 7 with a 2-1 lead then the bullpen blew it in the 9th.
Sounds like the Blue Jays alright

Ya I have too. I'm getting impatient with this process. It is stupid because the Fighters will for sure be accepting this bid, so this process is only being dragged on to get more hits to their website.

www.mlb.com ....nothing. Come on just tell us who won!!!

Wonder if AA is thinking Fielder and Darvish both or none?

If we did get both Darvish and Fielder are we moving D'arnaud for a Starting pitcher (going for it now)?

Exciting times indeed.

No chance he moves a player like D'arnaud.... If the Jays win the bid for Darvish and if they sign him. I doubt the Jays will look for any more starters

He will look to trade a LF and look to find Relief pitchers... maybe one more bat (DH)

I would bet Jays are not in on Fielder.

Just the report from the NY Post - but it sure smells like something is cooking in T.O.

Well it's interesting, if you indeed just dropped $50 Mil. to get the right to negotiate with Darvish, now you sign him to 5yrs 50? less? I think you go for it now and go hard for it the next 3+ years. I think there is some smoke around Fielder, they want to appear out of the bargaining so his asking cost and especially term dont get realized.

But yeah, after Santos and Janssen that entire bullpen needs to be revamped and I'm certainly wanting a new 3rd starter - dont trust B.Morrow and Cecil/Drabek not where I'd hope they would have been by
now.

Exciting times when we can debate over going for it all out now or progressing upwards for 2013! God bless you AA!

I think moving D'Arnaud would be silly, he's a much better prospect than JP

I would give him a few months in AAA and bring him up, if he can handle MLB pitching than I move JP either late this year or next off season

Would guess Jays will need to offer 5yrs // $75m to sign Darvish.

As for Fielder, I don't see the fit at all with the Jays, Fielder (rumoured) wants a 10 year contract. Jays have said they don't want to get involved with those types of deals.

As for the Jays starters

Romero
(open spot looking for help) - i.e. maybe Darvish etc
Morrow
Alvarez
McGowan or Cecil or Drabek or Litsch (5th starter spot is going to be a battle)

Rumors were they were talking to Mets about a Niese/D'Arnaud trade. Even the source said the Mets would have to be including much bigger pieces.

Food for thought: Maybe the Jays are going after Wright and Niese for D'Arnaud and other specs

Wright to 3rd. Lawrie to 2nd. Johnson to OF, DH (Heard he can play OF... Not sure if it's true)

Sign Darvish, They are saying 75/5 is what it will take.

Trade Lind, Snider (If they even want him) Drabek and Top prospect to Oakland for Bailey and Gio Gonzalez.

Sign Fielder for 6 years 150.

Assuming Darvish is 15 mil, Fielder 25 mil, Bailey and Gonzelez 10 together after arbitration, and Wright at 14 million, we would be adding 65 million, minus Lind's salary about a 60mil increase. The team is sitting at 45 mil, so we would be pushed to 110 mil salary once completly filling out the bullpen!

Dare to Dream!

Bam, team competing with the Yankees/Sox.

Agreed would never move D'Arnaud (he could be the top prospect or very close to it).

Personally would give him at least 1 full season at AAA, maybe two.

If and when he takes the top catcher spot, move JP to 1st and trade Lind.

JP is a really good hitter.

JP's hitting doesn't transfer to 1B, he would be a below average offensive 1b

From MLB trade rumors....this is getting very exciting.

"The Blue Jays bid more than $40MM and possibly close to $50MM for Yu Darvish and are now favorites to win exclusive negotiating rights with him, George A. King III of the New York Post reports. Multiple sources confirm the Post's report to Jim Bowden of MLB Network Radio and ESPN.com, who says the Blue Jays "won the bidding" (Twitter link).

The Yankees also posted a bid on Darvish, but it's not expected to top Toronto's bid, according to King. The Rangers made a bid and there's a belief the Cubs made a large bid, the Post reports. Rogers Communications, which owns the Blue Jays, ordered the team to make a "monster" bid, King reports.

The Nippon Ham Fighters have until 4pm CDT on December 20th to accept or reject the high bid for Darvish. The Fighters don't know the identity of the MLB team that won the bidding on Darvish, but they're expected to accept the bid.

JP is not a really good hitter. He's got some pop, but he still had a .280ish OBP last season. He's a good hitting catcher, but as soon as you move him out of there to 1st or DH he's not a major leaguer anymore.

Not sure if this has been posted, but Darvish has some nasty stuff. That slider bites hard and late.
