BIMD - Many of the New Canadians made money by dragging a small grinding wheel down the street for people to sharpen their knives, scissors etc. One day I took my skates out to be sharpened and he sharpened the blades down to a knife edge. So much for my skates.

BIMD - In small towns, handy stands would be set up to sell hotdogs, hamburgs and a drink. Maybe this is where MacDonalds got the idea people would forever eat this kind of food.

BIMD - If a person retired with $50,000., he could move to Spain and live comfortably forever.

BIMD - The best hockey teams of the Big 6 were the Leafs, Habs and Wings. The favourite hockey players were Syl Apps, Rocket Richard and Gordie Howe.

The silly thing, was all my buddies made fun of me for buying a Santa Cruz, because then, Powell Perralta was where it was at.

I saved my flyer route money for 5 months to buy that board, and it was the most I could afford, as the Powells, were quite a bit more expensive.

The funnest part was picking all the gear (wheels, trucks...etc) out of the display case to build it up.

BIMB you were lucky to get two bucks a week allowance in exchange for hours of back breaking labor like mowing and trimming the lawn, painting the fences around you're massive back yards (BIMD houses had back yards), sanding the massive deck, clearing the eavesdrops, taking the dog for a walk for two hours and cleaning up its poop.

But that two bucks would get you three medium slurpees a week and a comic book.

Pretty much your stock 80's, poser set up. I retired it at 14, when I tried to go over the rail in a 10' half pipe and do an airborne 180, proceeding to totally miss, face plant, and break a bunch of bones in my face and nose. Still feel the effect of that hit to this day, in a big way. It also totally changed the way I should have looked, especially my nose. What should have been your stock Jew nose, turned into a sorta roman nose.

Of course, I wasn't wearing a helmet. Only pussies wore helmets.
