Not sure if you're being serious, but if you are, I agree.
Hopefully Scud notices how some well thought out posts by a couple different members completely destroyed any point mikey made about the Royal Family being Nazi sympathizers, while his own post about mikey being a nutbar is as dumb as the original post he was criticizing.
It's a slow process, but one day we will be free from the motherland. We don't have to fight their wars anymore, but we still have their queen. We don't have their flag on ours, but we havn't renamed the city of Victoria. Maybe in 50 years when WW2 is no longer in living memory and Elizabeth II has long since passed on we will finally break the chains. And on that day I will be happy.

Australia is about a generation ahead of us in terms of movement towards a Republic.....but even there, there is little actual movement towards a referendum, etc.
So not in the next 20 years at least

I fully support spending the money on this- considering we spent how much on the last election and have one every year? That is a waste of money- this is a good way of giving communities some money while claiming it's honoring the queen. YAY

how are they ahead of us in that regard? they still have the union jack on their flag, we got rid of that 50 years ago. and we've had O' Canada as an anthem since the 1930's (not official though until 1980) but Australia had God Save The Queen until 1984

From what I recall, they have already had a referendum on it. The results were in favour of getting rid of the monarchy, but not enough to pass (54 percent if I remember correctly). They have also had high ranking people refuse to play God Save the Queen at public events.
