We have signed Magloire to a one year contract. Hopefully he can stay healthy and play some games for us, but I don't think he has done much the last few years.

Yeah, I'm fine with that. Confirms one of two things: most likely it's going to be an as-is roster and he's going to be there for depth minutes and teaching; or else Colangelo is looking at moving out one of the existing big men in a trade, and Magloire is there as an insurance policy. Most likely the first of those.

He did have 18 rebounds against the Raptors last year when the big 3 weren't playing. At the end of that, he's tough, he can rebound the ball and he's Canadian. Fine with the move.
First year actually living in Toronto, so very excited to take in a ton of Raptors games this year, no matter how much of a rebuilding year it is, and really start to follow the team.

I hope he brings nastiness to this team. I have no problem if he smacks a few teammates in practice a bit to get them a little more serious out there. He can be a new NBA Charles Oakley.

Not his MO at all. He has tended in the last few years for sure to just be workman like(that being a generous outlook on him).
He is a vet who can be filler and is marketable as a Canadian. So check, check and cost nothing so another check.
BC's interview yesterday in paraphrase sounded like "we know who we are, what we need to do and we are looking forward to JV and another good pick arriving next year.
Meantime they need some guys to fill some minutes especially in back to back to back games. They have have I think 13 back to back as well so they will need ANYBODY to just go out there and play some scrub ball.

Hi MO at this point is "do anything to stay in the league".
That's what this team needs, and he's trying to stick around.

BC pulled an Anthopolous today in the Globe and Mail, and essentially conceded that the Raps have no shot at the playoffs this year, which is obviously not a shocker.
He mentioned that his assistant GM has really influenced him from going after some free agents that could help the team in the short term, citing that there is a plan in place that they're sticking to. In a nutshell, it sounded to me like he plans on the Raps being a lottery team and building through the draft and their young prospects.
Interesting for him to come out and say that after the lockout, though. I'm expecting a ton of empty seats at the ACC this year.

I don't know why there should be more empty seats than last year. It's the same team that will be on the floor. The young guys should be a wee bit better. They have a new coach who might actually get them to play something that may resemble defense.
And you get to watch good teams playing them--what more could you ask for?

You don't think the lockout will have any effect? The Raps are a bit of an after thought in Toronto to begin with.

^ No chance the lockout will have an affect on the attendance. While hockey and increasingly, football, are the bigger sports, there is a huge market for the Raptors. The Raps may be the second fiddle in Toronto, but they're not seen as the CFL, that's for sure.

So Pietrus the latest signing. 1 yr deal and mediocre player who does though play defense. Just another guard to sign of the same type and BC is done.

So BC has 3 roster spots he could fill and he has said he will probably only fill 2. One more guard and one more big.
There is some talk they might be the team that grabs Turiaf.

If they can grab Turiaf, I'd be all up for that. Hard worker and a defensive specialist (though you wouldn't tell from his numbers). I'd like that move. Pietrus, meh.

But keep in mind all the acquisitions have to be meh. The goal is to tank not actually get better. At the same time you can't just give your new defensive minded coach a bunch of total bozos to work with. Casey will be freaked by Monday if they start practice today watching Calderon, Bargnani and the like play defense.
Got to give him at least meh to work with.

Would freaking love to see the Raptors get Turiaf. Have loved him since his years in Gonzaga. Also has that type of work ethic that could be really contagious for such a young team. Not to mention with the guys personality and how he plays, he'll be a crowd favorite within the first month.
Fingers crossed

Well they don't have Turiaf yet but they did sign some bozo named Gary Forbes. Some bum that drifted around Europe for years and then played with the Nuggets last year. Can shoot the 3 apparently.

Also absolutely torched Canada at the FIBA Americas tournament this year and ended Canada's slim shot at an Olympic berth (he was playing for Panama). But yeah, not going to be an impact player in the NBA. Fits the mold of a hard-working guy who isn't going to get between the Raptors and a high draft pick.

Turiaf gone to the Wizards in a 3 team deal
The Mavericks got reserve guard Andy Rautins from the Knicks in the deal, and there were other picks involved.
