I had netflix and just got bored. Basically everything I care about is either sports or news and that means live TV. If the playbook had netflix it would be awesome though because you can link to the TV so easily.

I think I have touched on it in this thread already, so I will just say that I appreciate the speed, multitasking and interface of the Playbook much more compared to my wife's iPad 2, but without Android apps, the device is dead in a year.

I don't know how to respond to this other than to say, if all you've used is a Playbook, I guess you can't be expected to appreciate how capable, rich, and deep the app ecosystem is on the other platforms. The device is clearly more constrained than other tablets on the basis of the apps available.
You think you have everything you need on your playbook, but everything looks like a nail when all you have is a hammer.
Which is fine, if all you want to do is pound nails - it could very well be a device that will fit your usage pattern indefinitely, and that's OK.

Been trying to sideload Android apps on the Playbook - does anyone know of a legal way of putting paid (or free) apps on?

^ thats it exactly.
I go from my ipod touch, where I have hundreds of apps that do what I want, to the Playbook, where if I am lucky I have 1, and it is twice as much (or more) as it costs for my iPod. IM+ is a perfect example: Sure it does what all the other apps did for my iPod, but it costs $7 - for an app I use maybe 2-3 times a year.
For example: I wanted a epub reader. Not only is one not included, but there is only a couple options, none of which support PDFs (so I can't bookmark them).

I assume you are using DDPB. There is a link within this page that contains download BARs but I have no idea if they are paid or what, so the legallity is questionable.
.BARs that have already been converted are here. AFAIK, it is legal because they don't allow paid apps to be posted with download links.
You could also convert a .apk to a .bar yourself if you were so inclined. The details of which depend on how the original app was developed. For example, an app developed with Adobe Air uses a certain method. I have not tried this method personally, but did some research on it.

Well if you do have a Playbook and your not worried about warranty... apparently there are ways to have your cake and eat it too...
http://www.androidcentral.com/blackb...-market-access
I'm still hearing here and there that come the update in January/February there will be a android dual boot like option for the play book that will allow full access to android apps.
I'm in wait and see mode though. I can wait till Q2 2012 for a tablet.

It is not a dual boot, it is a player that emulates Android within QNX, so it is a near seamless experience for the user. You can run it now if you want, by sideloading the Android App Player with DDPB, or installing the 2.0xx version of the OS, but without Android marketplace support.
As per the rooting, I fail to understand how it gives access to the Android Marketplace. Anyone able to shed on light on that?

Ya, that makes sense. The only thing is that I had an iPad before. I found myself browing the apps for "something to do" and really most of them were useless.

D'oh. Memory Express called me again just now. Originally the TF Prime was supposed to release on Dec 15. But apparently they got an e-mail from ASUS today that said they're delayed again, and haven't provided a date. Sounds like I might not be able to get it until the New Year now...

On Black Friday when I went to the Asus site there were only 2 places Asus listed as accepting pre-orders; Future Shop and NCIX. I entered a pre-order then so hopefully those early orders are processed first.

The device was already dead on release, DOA. The thing was nothing but a beta product.

Don't they know that some of us are giving up our iPad's as Christmas presents and need to switch over before the 25th!?! Now what am I going to do? I don't know how to exist without a tablet anymore. I'm going to have to use my, my ... laptop.

No doubt! Most of these apps I bought on this 10 cent sale have been with my tablet in mind...a tablet which do not currently have!
It's like living in the stone age. I might as well just give up internal plumbing and penicilin too.

Wow, I'm super impressed with how well the Playbook runs Android apps (at least the ones I've tried). I've been working through my essential Android apps and the only thing I haven't been able to get going is video Skype chats. Evernote, Kindle, Skype voice calls: all working perfectly.
It apparently takes just minutes for most Android apps to be converted. If that's true, and RIM comes with a good delivery system for them, maybe the Playbook won't die quite as soon as I thought...

Did I miss the heavily discounted Playbook prices? I just checked BestBuy online and they're all sold out and the prices look regular to me.

Android App Player doesn't have access to the video camera yet, so that explains that one.
How are you doing your installs?
