I wonder what happens if a ban is issued while you're at work and you can't get to your car to move it. Probably not feasible for a grace period.

The ban is being lifted at 6pm tonight.

I think this is what we will see happen frequently, yes the ban is for 72 hours but more often than not they will take care of business and have it done with sooner.

I think we should be allowed to love on any street.

If you can love here
you can love anywhere.

I guess it depends on what they give as a grace period. For example I knew we had enough snow for a snow event 18 hours before it was called. If somebody left for work on Sunday morning without knowing this was coming, then I would say it is too bad for them.

However the city could have also said at 8pm Saturday that the Snow event would be going into effect at 2:00 Sunday.

So I was offsite today, and parked on the street where I normally do, and was issued a warning. I thought I just was being stupid for not checking for the signs, so I circled the block and didn't see any.

Is it possible that a snow zone might not have signs? How are people supposed to know if that is the case? AFAIK it isn't a bus route.

I drive 6th St NE from 8th Ave to 16th and looked for the signs last week...There are only two snow route signs facing the northbound lanes (one immediately after 8th and one immediately after 12th). I haven't counted the southbound ones, but I think it's about the same.

They're definitely not posted with the same frequency as regular parking signs.

I heard on the radio today that there are only signs where the street intersects with another street. So depending on the street the signs could be quite far away from each other. They also mentioned that they are thinking of adding more signs.

660News Calgary Parking Authority say as of 4:30 pm today 3,291 warning notices were handed out to vehicles parked on snow routes throughout #yyc.

Warnings, what a waste of bylaws time. Ticketing and towing is the only way to get the message across. Unfortunately I don't think towing all the cars is possible, and would be too expensive. Tickets for all then.

Perhaps tickets next time, but the point is not to rule with an iron fist with a brand new policy that's so wide ranging.

The signing is difficult to get perfect. It's usually indicated at either end of the street. There's a chance a few might be missing. To check if yours is one, check this map. It accurately shows all snow routes.

Thanks for that link. The other link from the city wasn't working.

Seems the road is a priority 2 route - does that change the signage? I was expecting the same signs I see downtown.

blue sign with the snowflake, but different parking bans apply downtown vs other areas.

So to clarify - if a route is a Priority 2 snowclearing, does it fall under the parking ban? That essentially means you can't park anywhere in Beltline if that's the case...

Don't go by Priority. There are some roads with a ban that aren't listed as either Priority. Essentially though, priority 2 is a 72 hour ban.

Make sure to check the boxes at the near the bottom of the legend (to the right of the map) titled Snow Route Parking Bans. One is for Night and another for 72 hours.

If you look at the map - you can see that all of Centre City (which includes Beltline) and the different BRZ areas (such as Kensington, Marda Loop etc) only have overnight bans for 24 hours whether they are priority 1 or 2 rather than 72 hours.
