There's a button on the bottom right of the post.

I'm kind of ashamed to be honest.. I can't think of a good deed I've done!! So consider me inspired from this thread.

On Saturday I'm pulling into my garage in the alley, and this guy runs out of a smashed up Jimmy and starts talking to my gf (I make her get out of the car and walk around to not get my garage floor soiled and weak like herself). He is talking about how his transmission is gone and someone was supposed to tow him to Red Deer, but the snow and they have a kid... sounded like the typical sketcho story to get some money or something out of you. Anyway, he was parked in someone else's alley stall, and I guess they wanted his vehicle moved. He says "I supposed you guys probably park 2 cars in your garage?" so I'm thinking I'm onto him, and his plan is to rob me blind of all tools/bikes/hockey equipment. I let him know that we do put 2 cars in there, but if he needs somewhere to park I can give him my visitor pass and he can park on the street in front of my house. He's very thankful and I meet him out front and give him the pass. I figure worst case I'm down a visitor parking pass for a year.

He comes back last night and knocks on the door to give me a parking pass and $20 to say thanks. I tell him to put the money toward the new transmission his Jimmy needs, as it was really no problem at all. He said a lot of my neighbours weren't exactly friendly to him, so he really appreciated it. I guess when a guy is a bit dirty from working on his car and approaching people in an alley near downtown they don't react will, and he had a real tough time getting help. His appreciation was over the top and it made me glad I took 2 minutes to help the sketcho in the alley.

Heading off to donate some blood tomorrow, always a good cause and definitely a good time of year to do it. Hopefully it gets put to good use!

Malcolm's thread the other day actually prompted me to call CBS and set up an appointment.

Related to this is 3 things for calgary:

http://www.3thingsforcalgary.ca/

Things for Calgary asks all Calgarians to:
  1. Think about 3 Things you can do to make Calgary better. These things could be for your street, your neighbourhood or for the entire city.
  2. Do those 3 Things.
  3. Encourage 3 more people to do the same.
If every Calgarian did at least 3 Things for Calgary, we’d have more than 3 million actions making Calgary an even better city. Amazing! The 3 Things you choose are up to you. Large or small, every action we take makes a difference.

Best I've got for recent is an attempted good deed, although I do try to lend a hand whenever possible.

We were walking back to our car in Banff on Saturday afternoon when I saw a lady on the other side of the street spinning her tires at about 80kph trying to pull out of a parking stall. I crossed the street with the intention of pushing her away from the curb. As I walked up -I pointed at her hood to let her know what I was going to do. She gave me a strange look thhen hammered on the accelerator in reverse before I could get to the car.

As luck would have it that actually worked and I ended up with a shot of snow to the face and not much else... In that case I guess it really was the thought that counted.

Today I pulled into the mall where the car in the parking spot next to me had its hood popped and the owner was fiddling around under the hood. I got out of my car, smiled and asked how he was doing and if he needed any help. He smiled back, thanked me but said he had it taken care of. I just said "alright cool, have a good day" and proceeded to the mall.

Thankfully he didn't need help, so I didn't have to explain that I would just be a second set of hands as I have no idea what I'm doing under the hood of a car.

Every time it snows buckets I always remember in my teens my dad had skidded into a snow bank and got stuck. Some guy pulled over in a full out business suit, got his hands dirty and got us out with his giant SUV.

It's strange what sticks in your mind but every single time I have a crappy day now and start thinking everyone is a total self-serving dbag, I think of this guy. It's pretty cool how something small like that resonates with you for such a long time.

Once in awhile I make gifs or sigs for people on this forum.

I offer to help carry groceries to anyone who looks like they need it.

I shovel the neighbors walkway when it snows. (And it's reciprocated)

I helped 2 friends move on back to back weekends. Helped one pack even.

Helped a friend install eavestrough and I don't like heights.

Drove my dad to the airport at 5 am...

Destroyed the dragon Alduin and saved the world from total destruction.

I stopped pinching the bums of women while walking by the bus stops.

I helped a tiny little old lady reach down a huge jar of pickles from the top shelf at Superstore. I could tell, walking down the aisle that she needed some help. I could also tell she was eyeballing all six feet of me thinking "I bet this girl is really good at reaching down pickles." There was no way she could have got them down without hurting herself - and I am pretty good at reaching stuff on tall shelves.

Helped a lady change a flat outside my office. She had apparently been there for 20 mins and had made zero progress other than to get the jack out of her trunk.

So many evil retorts came to mind as I read about a 6 foot tall girl and pickles.

But I have to ask, do you disguise your inability to dunk behind strong fundementals?

A lady's car stopped running at southcentre so I put my shopping in the car and went to push her. Tonnes of other people watching and noone else offered to help me or her.

First attempt: she doesnt try helping just sits in her car in the snow storm. I'm pushing and she starts pumping the brakes. I tell her don't touch your brakes since I'm the only one pushing the car

Second attempt: again she pumps the brakes so I just walked away and leave her there.

It only goes so far

I was going to post a clever picture of a hernia, but when I googled it there was way too much penis.

I chalk up my abandoment of that graphic as a very good deed for the day.

This weekend I helped someone stay put. It's a lot easier than helping someone move. You just go to their house and make sure they don't put heavy stuff into a truck.

I bought some poor sap with vertical ID not horizontal ID (he told me he was legal age, ID said so, but hadn't received his new ID which is horizontal, some sort of weird alcohol prevention thing in the states I was told) a beer at the Eagles - Seahawks game, he paid.

I then proceeded to buy myself and all my buddies beers on his credit card to teach him not to give a complete drunken stranger your credit card. I think it is a lesson he will take to heart. Lord knows I was feeling good...

This is a totally dooshy thing to do. With 'good deeds' like this abounding, it's no wonder society is in the condition it is. Coal for your Christmas stocking.
