Successful launch of the Mars Science Laboratory rover named "Curiosity"!
It is an amazing rover. Biggest features are a whopping 176 lbs of scientific equipment (Opportunity and Spirit had 15 lb) and a radioisotope thermoelectric generator which will provide much more power for the rover without the interruptions of the day/night schedule and seasons that solar-powered rovers are prone to.
I am excited for it.

The following are listed in order from most habitable to least habitable, with their relative PHI score in brackets. Planets outside our solar system are indicated as exoplanets:

This kind of goes beyond science into philosophy, but it was an interesting read and I'd thought I'd share, but not starting a thread because I want to get some work done this week and this discussion could easily consume all available free time lol.
Wow... with my increasing exposure to basic physics through hydrology, any book recommendations to get in on the ground floor? Not looking to re invent the universe, but to help my overall understanding? Beyond "Physics for dummies" please..

If someone offered you a trip to this planet, say the trip took 50yrs in travel time, but you'd only age a little bit during that time; BUT 1000yrs would pass on earth so this would obviously be a very much 1 way trip.. Would you do it? Not knowing anything more than its likely to support life.
For some reason I've had this silly idea in my head that we'd be planning a massive mission to a far away planet that would take say 100yrs in travel time and that this ship is caught up to by another ship in only 20-30ys into the original shipīs trip by a ship from 100s of years in the "future."
Since the slower ship is traveling 100yrs to its destination which equates to 1000īs of years of travel time back on earth, those on earth might find a much faster method and catch up right quick to this ship in some ultra modern ship and say "hey guys need a ride?"
Damn we really need worm hole travel or folding space, I want to go out an explore!
