Default What does the power adatper for the SMCD3GN (Shaw) modem look like?

Okay, this is pretty embarassing but I was moving and the SMCD3GN modem from Shaw got separated from it's AC Adapter and I can't figure out which one belongs to it. I must have dozens of 12V adatpers from tons of old routers but I don't want to risk using the wrong one.

Can anybody tell me any identifying marks or even better, take a picture of their power adapter? Thanks.

I would never allow any Shaw product in my house, but look on the modem and see what the power requirements are (15VDC, 750mA for example) and match that to the adaptors.

You got the creepy/annoying telus guy in your avatar.

Not at home so I can't double check, but I think mine has a yellow label.

Yup, both sides will be labeled, and even if you use the wrong one but it has the proper specifications, you'll be fine.

Both sides are not labeled and rarely are on such devices. Usually it will only say DC in 12V molded into the plastic but not have any amperage information.

I did find my adapter (says SMC in tiny print).

If you can match the plug and polarity, you can pretty much match capacity by size Big devices/laptops/external 3.5" drives use big power supplies, smaller devices use mid-size ones, and tiny devices use the smallest wall warts. It's pretty rare that any switching power supply today that looks like its the right physical size for the device isn't going to deliver enough current.

The jack is labeled as 12V but the label with serial and part numbers will have the input specifications. On every single router/telco device I've had this is true because I've mixed up all the adapters a few times.
