Perhaps it's been discussed, but because I'd rather not slog through 25 pages, has anyone out there received the Galaxy tablet via the Rogers promotion? How are you guys liking it so far? I have one coming to me in the mail (at least I should).
I've been meaning to get an iPad eventually (never got the 2 because I wasn't overly satisfied with the screen resolution, and am waiting for the retina display version), but is it close enough to negate that need?
I pre-ordered the Asus Transformer Prime from Memory Express yesterday. They called me today and said it'll be available mid-December. So psyched up for this thing! AHHH

Ok I got a dumb question with non-apple tablets. Do they run Microsoft office? Also, can I install things into them like a computer, or are they more like my ipod where I have to go to the app store to download anything?

I'm jealous! I almost bought the Transformer on Black Friday down in the US, as it was on for $250 and they give you a $50 gift card, but I want the Prime. Easily the best Android tablet out there.
I want the Prime even more after wasting way too much time loading neutered Android apps on my Playbook.

Geez $200 for a Transformer is a nice deal too though. I'm trying to dig around for a $300 one. My gf needs a Christmas present too lol.

My gf is in school, and uses a lot of "one note". I know Mac has a version of one note, but does Android? Her computer is the most frighting thing on this planet, and a portable device for watching podcasted lectures (yes they do that now) and taking note would be the perfect present.
Despite some of my dumb questions on this forum, I consider myself computer savy.... anyway... I have never used an android, would it be a waste on someone who won't appreciate some of the more hardcore features? Would the IPAD2 be a better route?

There are note taking programs for all tablets. Evernote and Pages - which also syncs to iCloud - so notes can't be 'lost' even if the device isnt around. You can also just use Google Docs in your browser. As far as the more 'hardcore features' I really don't think there is much difference in the 2. If there is lots of note taking, then consider a Transformer because it has a nice keyboard dock, but you can get a few cases for the iPad with built in keyboards as well

If you go that route does it kill the bridge? I kind of want to play around with it and see how it is, but I do want the bridge.

I can't revert to 1.08 though, so I can't be 100% sure about , there is a bug with the final update on 1.08 after the revert, so it won't go through. When I have some free time, I will call support and get them to help me revert it. I really would like bridge back.
just to follow up on this: I rebooted my playbook, running 2.0, this morning and bridge (and a few other things started working). I think the reason I didnt realize it before is that the icons are all foldered.

Yeah Evernote works great for taking and reading notes off my phone. For more complicated documents I'll use Google Docs, though I will rarely use that on my phone. I'm sure Docs will work great on my new tablet when I get it though.
Love my Kindle fire so far. The best feature is the audible.com app which is much better than the kindle 3G. Worst thing is there is no text-to-speech feature for kindle books. However, still very cool, light and small and convenient.

I just ordered mine today! 10 minutes later I got a call saying they're expecting it any day, they'll call when it comes in.
The Kindle touch 3G I ordered as a Christmas gift for my mom arrived today! The 3G works very well, and the touch is more responsive than I thought it would be. If you are a serious reader, it's a great device!
Not sure if there is a thread for ebook readers, so I will just ask this here:
Considering getting my niece a Kindle Touch for Christmas and wanted to know if there would be any issues sideloading stuff onto it, or if it is locked to Amazon content like the Fire? She has a ton of epub books that she has got for her iPod, so I am assuming she would want to use them on her Kindle, but Kindle doesn't support ePub without converting, with something like Calibre, correct?
She also gets stuff from the library, which Amazon claims is possible, but only with "Kindle Books" - which implies they need to be .amz format, right?
Is there another reader that should be considered instead? I want to keep it under $100 if possible, unless there is a really good reason.
