This pretty well sums up how I approach the whole discussion. An eloquent, well-explained and logical explanation of why I don't believe in 'God' or other 'gods'.

It is absolutely ridiculous to mistrust someone based on their belief on whether or not God exists. Unfortunately preconceptions based on this belief goes both ways. A theist believing that an atheist is immoral and evil is no dumber than the atheist thinking that the believer is stupid and naive. It's always comments around stuff like this that fuel these pointless arguments on the internet...pssh...in the world.
As far as I can understand it can't be that cut and dry either way, since there's no proof of the existence of God one way or another. Someone said atheism is based on fact and reason. Reason? Based on physical evidence and our perception, sure it is something we can reason. But fact? There are no facts. Facts are simply a pool of things we know. Dark energy and dark matter are things we theorize to exist, but are not yet facts, and these are things we are only recently looking at. Who knows what vast amount of information is out there that we have yet discovered. Just because we haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
Flip it the other way and it's the exact same thing. No theist can outright say that God exists as a fact. To state it as fact is equally wrong. However a lack of evidence doesn't preclude it. Perhaps there is a greater consciousness out there. We as humans can only understand so many dimensions of things. What's to say that there's nothing beyond our perception?
And again beyond any of this I don't like the idea of judging anyone based on either opinion. There are plenty of great people on both sides of the fence, and anywhere in between.

When an atheist does something evil, that's proof that atheists are evil.
When a Christian does something evil, that's proof that they weren't a "true Christian." In fact, they were probably an atheist. Thus, more proof that atheists are evil.
Really Atheists in general have gone out of their way to attack Christianity in North American. Of all the enemies of the cross of Christ atheists have been the most abnoxious. We don't see Muslims or Jews attacking Christmas and demanding crosses be removed from public property. You guys got the reputation you deserve.

Speaking to the US side of the issue, Christians have gone against the Constitution for decades. Separation of Church and State is all but ignored... they have "In God We Trust" printed on their money even.
And don't even go down the path of "atheists started it". Just being an atheist around some people is enough to be treated like a complete piece of garbage by them. This is reactionary.

No, you just see them flying planes into buildings.

No, they're much sneakier than that.
They just build mosques, the size of football stadiums, to cast a shadow on everything around it.
Or, they take over a large chunk of a municipality and build a Religo-centric gated community, where they can pretend it's Halloween 24/7. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baitul_Islam_(Maple)
According to Wikipedia they are planning a High School for this village and it's people. I'm sure if we keep allowing this, in our wonderful free country, in another 100 years we can be just like the present day Middle East.
That's better right?
Religion is poison. Though I don't view Islam as a religion, I view it as a totalitarian ideology of lunacy.

Good point, as usual. Christians, Muslims and Jews have been getting along great for centuries.
Just out of curiosity though, what reputation is it that we deserve? It sounds like you are agreeing with this "atheists are as distrustful as rapists" thing.

I'm all for the separation of church and State. Can you tell me which church has been unduly influencing the government?
Other than diplomatic relations with Vatican city I'm guessing you won't find any. What atheists have been doing in America and Canada is demanding the silencing of religious expression in public spaces. They are demonstrating a monsterous intolerance towards the Christian faith. No wonder then are despised in return.
Speaking to the US side of things the framers of your constitution seen no conflict with there own public expressions of faith. There only concern was that no State church would be formed like they seen in England and like the 13 colonies had.

Sorry, I don't see the problem. They built a house of worship and a housing development.
Did they contravene building or zoning codes? Presumably not.
This clearly has you worked up. Curious whether you'd have the same issue if it was a Catholic Church or a Baptist gated community?

I think atheists should be demanding the silencing of appallingly poor grammar.
