Are there really that many people who don't have a parking pad/garage/driveway to park on that this is a problem?

PARKING BAN IS NOW LIFTED.
False Alarm. (Or the sun is melting too much snow for there to be a need).

I can only imagine downtown (even with the day time exception) and the majority of the inner-city that is going to be the big problem.

Snow Event advisory lifted – No Snow Route parking bans in effect
The city-wide Snow Event advisory has been lifted, and Snow Route parking bans will not be declared at this time.
The City of Calgary will continue to carefully monitor the weather and road surface temperatures to determine if plowing operations will be required.
Please note: Snow Route parking bans could still be instituted if Environment Canada forecasts more snow for the Calgary area. Should this occur, The City will send out a Snow Event advisory.
A Snow Event will not be declared until there is an accumulation of five centimetres or more of snow on the roads. A Snow Route parking ban is therefore not anticipated at this time.
Snow Routes include major roadways, collector roads and most bus routes and are marked by blue signs containing a white snowflake icon. A map and full list of Snow Route locations is available on Calgary.ca/snow.

Any residential street with the snow route signs. They are fairly obvious.

Well, my street isn't a snow route, but if it was there would be trouble. My neighbour to the east has a motorhome parked where their parking pad was, and they have 3 vehicles. They currently park 1 on the street, one in the alley behind their fence, and one in the alley behind they next neighbour's fence (who also does not have a parking pad anymore and park their only vehicle on the street). To my west there are a mother and he early 20s son living there and she has one car and her son has 2 cars (and Eclipse and a winter car). More than half the week his girlfriend also stays over. The multi car scenario seems pretty darn common along my street.
If people couldn't park on the street it would be interesting to see where they park. Hell, it is interesting when people come to visit anytime.

Why are people complaining about this so much on twitter? They are complaining about getting current information from the city on the ban going into place and then being lifted. Some people, they'll complain when you give them no info or too much.
One "twit" was complaining about getting all the emails (after signing up for the alerts), they are just freakin' emails.

I don't see how they'll tow that many cars. As I understand it (feel free to jump in if you know), City Wide has the towing contract for the city, and they can't have the man-power to tow more than a handful of vehicles per hour. Tickets on the other hand I can see going everywhere. Could make for a nice little tax for the city to collect that the majority of us won't have to pay.

First, they change drunk driving rules to take my license away even though I am not doing anything illegal.
Now, they try to ticket me when I park legally, except for that 4 hour period they deem it to be illegal.
The MAN has really gone too far now... time to become a free man on the land.

That's just my side of the street!
I've decided if I ever move I never want to be in an area so dependant for on-street parking.

72 hour period. I think that will be the big problem with this. It's not just a couple of hours until the streets are clear, it's 3 full days.

But what do people want? Clean streets, or non-cleaned streets? This is the frustrating thing, because you can't please everyone. People will complain no matter what the city does, and everyone thinks they can do a better job than the city. The problem is nobody wants to actually do the work, they just want to sit back and see everything get done PERFECTLY. But that's not possible.

I want flying cars. It's 2011 for Christ's sake: where are the flying cars?
No need to plow a single road ever again.

I didn't realize you get free CPA parking in any of their lots during a snow route parking ban. That's pretty awesome.
Does the area for downtown stop at 12th ave?

FYI...The first Snow Route Parking Ban came into effect at 2pm on Sunday, December 4. Unless it is lifted early, the ban is in effect until 2pm on Wednesday (72 hours).
You can see which roads are affected and where the plows are currently working at this link: http://www.cocnmp.com/snic/

Wonder how many people will see "Now lifted" in the title and assume it is.
