Every song on the album takes its title from a city or a town, and Canada's represented beautifully by "Calgary." It's a sweetly soaring number, and Vernon admits that the Alberta city has been long-romanticized in his mind, even though he's never been there.
"Just being from the upper Midwest, I think there's an affinity [for Canada] with most folks that I grew up with," Vernon laughs. "I've never been to Calgary, still, and I've always imagined Calgary and, like, thought about Calgary, but the song's kind of like a wedding vow song between two people that haven't met yet, you know, sort of making promises to each other and I think that's what that's about. There's a danger and a beauty to envisioning a form, in this case love, or a place where love exists or can come from."
Interesting.

That is why I found it surprising that the closest his tour came to playing Calgary was Vancouver (same night as James Blake and Pearl Jam). Based on the concept of this first release from Bon Iver you would think a tour stop was a given for Calgary.
A couple of my favorite Bon Iver songs not on his recent classic :

I think Justin Vernon had said in an interview that they are planning a Canadian tour in the spring. The problem over the past year was the drummer, S, Carey was touring with his solo album and Justin Vernon doing the album with GAYNGS and playing some shows with them. This should be a big year for Bon Iver, I saw them right after For Emma and they are well worth seeing.
Haven't listened to a lot of new albums this year, somewhere in the neighborhood of ten. Radiohead's newest album is the only one that I can definitively say I will be listening to for years to come so I'll write a little on it:
Radiohead - The King of Limbs
It took a little bit of time for me to truly sink my teeth into this record, I would say after the band's From the Basement performance was when it clicked. I found the album to be a tad diluted sonically but that was quickly remedied after hearing them perform songs like 'Bloom' and 'Feral'. I've been on a 'Feral' binge lately, the layering is incredible, Johnny and Ed basically just adding a whole bunch of crazy effects and pitch bends to their chords while Colin effortlessly grooves around the percussion. There are lyrics to the song, incoherent for the most part but not without their place. Radiohead are this era's Can, years ahead of most if not all other current musicians.
And...
Girls - Father, Son, Holy Ghost
Mastodon - The Hunter
Wilco - Whole Love (Great bookending tracks)
Mogwai - Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will
Bill Wells and Aidan Moffat - Everything's Getting Older
