Yeah but the proponents of no playoffs in college would have you believe that these games dont matter as much as they do in NCAA....for some reason.

I really shouldn't bite, but I will.

They don't mean as much. At all. The Giants season didn't end last night, they actually still control their own destiny. If this was a college system they'd be done. The same goes for a number of teams. Now I'm not arguing that the NFL has a worse system, but you're comparing two completely different things with very few common variables.

Orlovsky was just names starter in Indy; too bad they don't play the Chiefs.

And Indy fired their DC.

Only because other teams opened the door back up. It was effectively over at that point barring a loss by OU and OSU. The Giants season isn't over regardless of what anyone else does.

I still cant wrap my head around how this is a bad thing or a worse system or whatever adjective you want to apply.

And the Giants (in this example) are in really tough to make the post season actually, so although last night didnt mathematically end their season, it certainly put a massive bump in the road.

I think irregardless(!!!!!) of last night game, the Giants have to beat the Cowboys twice to make the playoffs. I don't think they were really in the wildcard hunt because not winning the division (losing to Dallas) would give them a poor record. I can't see two NFC East teams in the playoffs this year. It's win the division or bust.

So last night's game only mattered in the sense that they could afford to lose a non-Dallas game but can't afford to lose another one. Giants don't want to be in a position where beating Dallas twice might still not be enough to win the division.

If the Giants lose to Green Bay next week, then they will have to run the table, but I think even if they had won last night, they have to run the table anyways.

Nice Primetime games this week NFL. At least the Sunday nighter should contain high amounts of offense with Saints/Lions, but Thursday night Seahawks/Eagles and Monday Chargers/Jags. Epic fail. Jags get two Monday night games this year? NFL doing everything they can to get fans to watch them in Jax and it doesn't help. Maybe the new owner will do everyone a favor and move them........anywhere.

Texans sign QB Jake Delhomme. He will be the backup this week.

A lot of Thursday night games are not particularly good matchups. Although this one at least looked to pit the Division winners from last year up against each other. I don't think anyone expected the Eagles to be 4-7 at this point. It could be worse...it could be a Red Skins and Seahawks game from last week.

Why the NFL put Jacksonville on Monday night twice is beyond me...as you say probably trying to force ticket sales in that market. I think they also have a Thursday game in a couple weeks too.

I would suspect the new owner will pretend to try and make things work in Jacksonville for two-three years...than say okay enough how much do I have to pay the rest of you so I can move to Los Angeles and their fancy new stadium.

I think if you look at the entire primetime schedule NBC got the best with Sunday night football this year even before the flex scheduling kicks in, the match ups were way better.

No fantasy implications for me in the monday nighter, so at least don't have to watch being concerned and can find something better if it's as truly awful as it sounds.

Excited for this week's game against the Panthers... It's throwback week!

Since its throwback week does that also mean that we should beat heavily on the Panthers?

Only need one stat to show how bad this year has been for the colts. 20.5 point underdogs this week to the Pats. There hasn't been a spread that bad since 93. Awful. Draft day cannot come soon enough for them.

So what about ESPN and NFL Network having such crappy games in primetime? Do they need to fire their execs?

Maybe but their job is a bit harder because NBC gets first choice. Plus teams can only play in primetime 3 or 4 times so NBC hogs it all. I don't think the Cowboys can play more than once on either Thursday or Sunday.

The Thursday night schedule isn't bad. Philly against Seattle looked good back in August. But yeah, the Jags should never play at night.
