2. M83. Midnight City
The lead single off of M83s monster double album Hurry Up, Were Dreaming sees Anthony Gonzalez at his spacey, dramatic best. Midnight City paints a vivid picture of neon-lit drives through dark cityscapes, capturing both the beauty and isolation of modern urban life.Kyle Smith
My vote for song of the year and album of the year. It's kind of a perfect blend of 80s synth-rock and 00s indie rock.

It wasn't the best year for music imo. Especially for "albums". Lots of good singles out there though and many off of this record label http://www.secretlycanadian.com/roster.php
Hopefully next year is better as 2011 was a bit of a let down musically imo.

Yeah, it's obviously next to impossible to make a top song list without someone not agreeing.
Hell, my favorite song of 2011 isn't even available to buy as a single, since it's a Mashup. I'm stuck with Podcast versions cut down to size.
I just thought I'd recognize more. I recognize a few more of the bands on the top 50 albums but the majority I've never heard of before. I didn't think I was that out of touch with music.
Not that I have heard the album - but Q's list has 01 Florence & The Machine – Ceremonials - that album just came out a month ago - seems like more of picking the flavor of the month more than the best album
