Did I use the terms "hate speech"? Did I say I suffered "emotional trauma"? It's not like I suffered night terrors for year on end because of that. But that moment is in my memory. You know I have the right to ride the bus and not be called a nip. It's stupid and belittling. Your comment sounds like you're condoning these types of actions. Too good my ass.
...No I don't condone racist comments, but in the real world as long as differences exist between people, it will never be eradicated. You're always going to run into unintellegent morons who lack social grace. Deal with it.
If you "remember" this incident but it didn't cause you any harm/trauma, it sounds like something barely worth mentioning at all. There are kids who get beat up physically and bullied in a thousand different ways everyday......much worse than being called a "nip" once.

And why do these have to be mutually exclusive? Racism is not something to brush off. Both bullying and racism are harmful to society and both should be dealt with. One should not take the lime light over the other. Brushing off racist acts is no different that ignoring bullying.
Edit: I also remember getting bullied in school and getting mugged once for money. But no permanent trauma, so I guess bullying and crime should equally be ignored. This isn't about one or two incidents happening to me, but a general problem that should be addressed.

They are harmful to a degree, so how should "society" deal with it?
Get the government to throw people in jail for hurting others feelings? That is a slippery slope to shutting down free speech my friend.
Hardcore forms of racism (segregation, black slavery) have thankfully already been eliminated from western civilization. All it is now is insult words and the media hype to follow it up. We, as adults should know how to deal with petty insults. If insults turn into violence, then the law should step in, but that's it imo.
I'm all for personal responsibility.

You brought up bullying earlier. How do you propose that be dealt with? Jail time is no more effective there either. Similar to what you're saying about racism, in theory bullying will never cease either. Some kids will be bigger and meaner than other kids. It's how it is. Doesn't mean we shouldn't try. So your and my best bet: awareness. The video in the OP is good in the fact that is shows this kind of stuff still happens. Should she be arrested and fined? In my opinion, yes. It was a public disruption which nearly became violent over racist comments. Anger management? Probably! Jail time? Maybe not. These are not things to be ignored. And it's not just insult words and media hype. There are still violent racist acts. To think it's just words being spread around it naive. But if we can stop it before even the words get out, it will make a difference.
Edit: And why the hell did you put society in quotes? lol

mikey, I thanked a couple of gems because I just couldn't help myself...
You got to be good to have every post reek of troll and still be enough to make people bite.
There was nothing trollish about my post. The crazy broad on the train is clearly not very intellegent, and shouldn't be given any attention by the media at all.
Let crap like that fade into obscurity where it belongs.
Notice how I don't go off in an emotional rant about how I'm offended that because of my handle you infer that I live in a trailer park.

Anyways, I wish people in general weren't so easily butt-hurt about what others have to say, ...but we live in a liberal world now, so constant complaining and being the victim is the order of the day.
So to clarify:
-Emotional rants about racism are not warranted
-Emotional rants about people complaining about racism are warranted
Complaining about being the victim surely is the order of the day. You poor victim of the liberal world where people don't like racist comments. Must be really difficult
But if we can stop it before even the words get out, it will make a difference.
Well good luck with that. You can't control what people say or think, period.
It's the same thing with bullies. Right now we are down to bullying bullies for bullying. It's hilarious, and ineffective.
What happened to instilling some confidence/self-esteem into kids? Teaching them to fight back and stand up for themselves.? Is that too hard to teach nowadays?
But hey, lets keep with the current trends like for example not allowing kids to wear halloween costumes that are "too scary" or not keeping score in sports, or automatic suspensions for a little dust-up. Total wuss society.

It's just over the top. It seems every day someone is in trouble for hurting someone's feelings.
I get tired of hearing every story about some guy who said something racist about some other guy.
It is difficult watching our once proud and free nation stagnating in name calling, finger pointing and maximum political correctness at all times.
In order to make my silly joke, I had to change my search from nips to japs. If you're bored and home alone tonight I'd suggest using google to search images for nips.
About 12,600,000 results (0.32 seconds) and I don't think a single one was racist.
Going on a tirade is one thing, but I'm not so sure this can be a "hate crime."
What "crime" was actually committed? That fact that she's a racist ######bag doesn't mean she did anything illegal . . . I'm on the fence about this one.
EDIT: Disturbing the peace, sure, I can get that.
Absolutely disturbing the peace.
But not even close to a hate crime.
And really guys, you want the government to take her kid away? Once we start that, where are we going to stop?

Your complaining more than anyone in this thread, wishing for times when our nation was more free to be more racist and proud of it without people being able to get defensive?
I guess I see why you're bitter about it; things just aren't as good for you as they used to be.
People standing up to racism, gays getting married, women working! what's next!?
