A Paralympic cyclist may represent her country in the Olympics after a bike crash miraculously gave her back the use of her legs.
Monique van der Vorst, 27, was paralysed from the waist down and had been confined to a wheelchair for 13 years.
Powering a bike with her hands, she had represented the Netherlands at the Paralympic Games and won two silver medals.
But last year, after being knocked off her bike, her feet started to tingle, and within months, she was able to walk again.
that is truly unbelievable. Congrats to her and her desire to be in the Olympics.
Would suck though if she crashed during a bike race and lost the use of her legs again...

Not only did she regain the use of her legs, she's now at the ponit where she is a serious competitor in regular biking. Downright bizarre.
Yeah that is amazing, I had my left leg paralyzed for about a month due to nerve damage, it slowly recovered and while it's now okay, it doesn't have the strength it once had.
An environment in which a person encounters only beliefs or opinions that coincide with their own, so that their existing views are reinforced and alternative ideas are not considered.
She had a complete spinal cord injury and it somehow magically repaired itself when she fell off a bike?
It's unbelievable because it's impossible.
I think most of the articles state that she had damage to the spine, not a "complete spinal injury".
Although van der Vorst's recovery remain unexplained, that's largely because of the speed of her recovery, according to IoL News. In fact, regaining the use of paralysed limbs is more common than we realise, according to Geoff Raisman, a neurologist at University College London.
"A very considerable body of careful patient data...[collected] over a considerable period of time indicates that over 40 per cent of spinal injured patients initially paralysed will walk again," he told New Scientist. http://www.newscientist.com/blogs/sh...gains-abi.html
