Help me pick out a TV [Split]
I'm in the market for a television. Any suggestions on brands/TVs? Should I wait for boxing day?
Probably 45-55in. Can't break the bank. Already have other home theatre items so package deals aren't really for me.

I've seen a few places offering a Samsung 51" TV for just under $500.

Not sure about the quality- but the price sure is right.

As far as specifics, 1080p is a must, 120hz. LED/LCD doesn't really matter, nor does plasma I guess. Probably $1000k or less.
Thinking something more like this:

I find the picture is so much brighter and easier to see on LEDs; my brother has one and I'm jealous.

Which is great but this isn't a debate on the quality of TVs. It is about me finding a TV for under a grand that fits my needs.
I appreciate your input and I may lean towards an LED if it fits my other criteria.
This may be suitable:

I bought my 40 inch LED Samsung last year from Memory Express for $700, so I'm sure you could get a 46 inch for under a grand.
I have an LCD 120Hz, and the above LED 60Hz, and the LED just kills the LCD in terms of picture quality. If you can afford a couple hundred bucks more, my suggestion is go LED. It really makes LCD look last generation IMO.

The D6500 is $400 more expensive. Is there anything it could possibly offer that would make me want that instead?

Samsung is the way to go if you want my opinion. If your into downloading movies/tv shows you can play them directly through a USB flash drive plugged into the tv. For me this large but the picture quality is superior on Samsung. I have owned Panasonic plasma, Sharp LCD, Sony LCD and a Samsung LCD and Samsung has outperformed the others with Sony in a close 2nd. Sony's are too much $$ so I'd go with a Samsung for $100 or just under! Their speakers are not great though, picture unbeatable!

I think saying one brand is the best doesn't tell the full story. You have to be model specific as I'd way rather have a top Sony or Panasonic over a cheaper Samsung. The best LED LCD right now is probably the Sony HX929 as it has local dimming while Samsung doesn't have a comparable model. As for Sony being over priced, right now the old models are starting to be on sale, so a person can watch for some great deals, not that I'm trying to sell Sony's, other brands such as LG, Samsung, Panasonic etc. also make some fine TVs.

That sony in a comparable size is an extra $700. Way out of my price range.
Appreciate the input though.

Why not wait until Boxing Week? I'm going to get a 32" TV for my bedroom. Although I'd prefer it now, I don't mind waiting a month for them all to be on sale.
As for TVs I've been a Sony user as far back as I can remember.

I posted this in the other thread.
Is Boxing week going to have better deals? I am off that day...
I'm typically a Sony user myself. But at this point money is more important that brand loyalty. Although quality is important too.

I bought this yesterday and it's treated me well so far! Nice to have the 30% off the stand and free wifi dongle to go with it too.
Look at hometheater.com if you want to find a good review of it.

Buy this and then sell the HT stuff

Memory Express sometimes has decent prices for TVs too.

How is Samsung with standard def stuff? I've tried a few brands but I keep going back to Sony because their scaling of standard def stuff seems to be better to me.

It's no secret I'll generally recommend the Viera series any time this topic comes up, but if you're going with a Sharp or a Samsung, give Radio Crafts a call. I've got some fantastic pricing from them on other items.
