Vancouver won a rare match yesterday. I have preferred their style to that of Toronto FC this season, as I would rather see a team go for it and lose, than piss around and lose. Regardless, a nice home win for the fans on a nice afternoon.
Looks like NBC is going to try to position NBC Sports as a serious competitor to ESPN.
If they use their existing relationship with the NFL and NBA to transfer some of those games to the new network, plus push some Olympic coverage to that station during Olympic years, they will be a good alternative.
Great news for both the MLS and NHL that they are taking this channel very seriously.

TFC picks up their 4th win of the MLS season last night against a pretty good Real Salt Lake side. The big surprise though was the shift to a 3-4-3 formation after playing a 4-3-3 all year. The key was Frings who played centreback and controlled the team. He has really transformed this team along with some of the new arrivals. They are 3-2-0 in their last five including CCL play and hopefully have figured it out. Let's go you Reds!
TFC won their first CCL group game against Tauro FC 2-1 last night. The match was a joke with out of control diving by Tauro and a ref that was card happy. A big 3 points, hopefully they can capitalize on their upcoming matches at BMO. Lets Go You Reds!!!!!
I attended the Timbers vs. Chivas match on Wednesday night. It was one of the best gameday experiences I've ever had. Great victory for the home team, tons of fun in the stadium, and I was fortunate enough to meet tons of great people before the match, as well. Highly recommended, especially for the price ($20 for Gen. Admission).
As for this weekend, Hurricane Irene is wreaking havoc on the schedule, many matches are postponed. After 4 matches in 11 days, due to the cancellation this weekend Portland doesn't play again until Sept. 10.
Toronto FC is playing FC Dallas in the final game of the Concacaf Champions League group stage. A win for TFC would put them in the quarterfinals, to be played in February.
Currently, they are up 1-0 about 35 minutes in. Could be the only excitement for all Canadian clubs this year.
^ They'll find a way to lose late. I'm watching the game too, and hopefully they can keep going in the CCL because, as you say, it would be something positive for a Canadian team in another otherwise disappointing season.
The Portland Timbers announced a 97% season ticket retention rate, the waiting list is up to 5,000 people. Not bad for an inaugural season which is concluding with a slim, slim chance at the playoffs. Great results for a first year club.
Massive win last night, Plata continues to impress. I'm renewing my seasons and hopefully I'll be at the first CCL game in March. Lets Go You Reds!!!! TFC TFC TFC
I watched the second half of the Final. I'm impressed how far the MLS has come, but there is still work to do - the best players were a seriously jet-lagged Robbie Keane, and a near-retired David Beckham.
The final wasn't the best MLS game by far, but I see your point. I think that they're doing a great job at developing, which is refreshing compared to the flash in the pan history of previous North American leagues. Soccer-only stadiums, strong supporters' groups, etc. are all helping it grow.

The MLS is here to stay, and as soccer becomes further engrained in the American / Canadian sporting culture, the league will get more money and become a better league.
The NASL is another story, but it's not folding yet!
