Why can't we all just get back to bashing the hippies? I hope bylaw is out there with billy clubs, destroying tents and cracking hipster skulls.

My apologies; I didn't know I needed to go to that degree. I thought it was assumed. Someone claimed a protestor said it. I would think that poster wouldn't be lying.

It was claimed it was said though, so whether it's true or not doesn't matter. A response like that in any context is just dumb.

Am I the only one who thinks it would be fun to dump buckets of water over their tents? See how long #Occupytent would last.

What's the point? There's no one in them

^ We could turn it into an art project. A park full of iced-over tents, and a bunch of unhappy Occupy wankers standing with their arms crossed looking at them.

We could call it "The Winter of our Discontent" and try and get some of the federal arts money paid to us as a grant. CalgaryPuck - we're artists and Flames fans at the same time!

Or even the 1-2 that get the short straws decide to abandon ship in the middle of the night.
So assuming the tents are 'rattled' and nobody is home, are they removing them yet?

Don't dump the water on them, drop a deuce (and dump some water) in them.

Pshaw. Everyone knows Calgary has no culture.

A very interesting article in the Toronto Star today where a judge, in open court, is acutely aware his decision on Occupy may set a precedent for Canada . . . . . his challenges to the Occupy arguments vis-a-vis the Charter:

Sadly it doesn't appear so. A few reporters have said "the tent city is a ghost town, city works are just clearing snow in un-occupied areas of the plaza"

But at the very least they can write down "all tents appeared to be empty at 11:00am walkthrough" and if their still empty after 11:00 tonight I'd imagine (read HOPE) that'd be enough to clear them out and say "no one was there for a 12 hour period, at that point it's just garbage"

But I don't have much faith in our city to pull the trigger on such a move.

I enjoy that the problems caused to local residents are framed as a mere "inconvenience". Would it not be merely an inconvenience for the protesters to not be able to setup tents and have their protests be limited to 19 hours a day?

The first thing I thought of too. Hypocrites one and all.

I saw a few protesters in other citys (Vancouver & Edmonton) touch on exactly that, their basic response was "It's not realistic to set up & tear down a tent city each day!" *Translation: Too much work.

Yeah, the protestor did say that, and I was pretty skeptical about the guy's comments given:

a) the fact I've met FirstLady and have a pretty good idea what her and Cory are all about,
b) it flat out doesn't make sense to insult someone who is on assitance because they're severely handicapped. I don't know many children that would do that let alone adults,
c) the individual lacked credibility himself.

I wasn't there to get into it with these people, I wanted to see first hand what was happening down there and what kind of discourse was happening and form my own opinion on it instead of relying on the media (social, professional, otherwise). Its no wonder the movement is dead. These people were not organized, articulate, or working towards any sort of result.

It was odd how that comment was one of the first things to be part of my experience there, especially because of my connection to this place and FL herself.

Thanks for the additional comments.

Yesterday Cory had an interview with Sun News. Originally it was suppose to be at the studio and he was bringing a friend with him (simply because they happened to be together at the time).

Last minute they changed the location to down at OP. Cory was reluctant, but agreed since he had a friend with him.

They parked on the other side of city hall and walked through the building. One of the occupiers was in there handing out pamphlets, as they passed the man noticed Cory and started saying "He's not human" over and over.

They took a wide path around the plaza to get to the Sun van, but he was spotted by one of them and that individual started yelling "It's the anti-Christ."

When the interview was done they stopped to grab a coffee. One of the occupiers was in the coffee shop. As they stood in line, he started saying "that man has blood on his hands" loud enough for everyone in the coffee shop to hear.

Needless to say Cory is NEVER going down there again.

Then the terrorists have won.

He should back his truck up to the edge of their campout and just let it idle for a while.

From a post on their FB page sounds like it will be over soon anyway.

Apparently City is offering them meeting space and aid of city planner to help get them organized.....if they agree to dismantle the camp.

Its rare I give props to Falung Gong but when they were told they couldn't have a permanant structure outside the chinese embassy in Vancouver they took it down and now sit in the freezing rain registering their opposition to the Chinese Goverement, I may not care that much about their cause but I respect the fact they are prepared to suffer for it.

What the!!

Are they paying for the meeting space and the use of a city planner to get them organized? If not, why should we be paying for it?

I'm hoping that the term "help them getting organzied" means show them how to fold up their tents, clean up the squatters village and the park and go home.

Why are we rewarding them, the city should send in bylaw officers tonight to confiscate empty tents and continue to ticket the rest of them, and as it gets colder rinse and repeat til they're gone.
