Now that the Huskies are out... Go Western!! After watching a mediocre team this year at USask I realize how spoiled I was with Western's teams the past 4 seasons, it was some entertaining football out there and they look even better this year! A packed TD Waterhouse Stadium on Saturday would be so fun to be at for the Yates Cup.

Dinos score 49 unanswered in the 2nd half tonight and crush UBC 62-13 to win the Hardy Cup for the 4th straight year. They will host the Mitchell Bowl next Friday.

It'll be nice to see the Dinos get Laval at home for once, assuming they hang on.

I may swing by as well. Doubt they will win against Laval though, that school defines winning

It's not a level playing field. Laval seems to play with a number of older ringers (not your typical students).

That may have been true in the past, as it was at a number of programs (including the U of C), but it's not really the case anymore. CIS rule changes a couple of years back got rid of most of the overage players. Looking at Laval's current roster the only guys that really stand out are foreign born players, otherwise they're all about the same age as the Dinos roster.

The university has been hyping up these playoff games more week by week. Nice to finally see them pushing to encourage students (and non) to come out to the games. Too bad tomorrow is gonna be as cold as the north pole, so no one is gonna show up still.
Hopefully they keep the same mindset next year so they can get greater turnouts in the future.

I think the Dinos should play in a more intimate stadium. The atmosphere at an empty McMahon must be brutal.

It is, but there's not really another option and I don't see a new stadium on the horizon. It would be nice, but it's really not needed.

Hellard Field would be better than McMahon.

They really need to just put up a version of one of the soccer domes. Indoor warmth and say capacity for 5000 fans. Plus they could rent the thing out.

It would be better than McMahon, except for location, and Hellard having only 1500 seats would mean it would need to be expanded.
What the U of C needs is a 5000 seat soccer / football stadium on campus. Unfortunately I don't think the University can justify costs of a new stadium when they have an existing stadium so close.

Have the Dinos ever had more than 1500 fans? Will they ever?

They could if it was done right. A nice small facility indoors with some good food and a couple of good bars. Make it the in place to go on campus even if they could care less about sports.

Calgary's attendances this year were 4176, 1725, 1047 and 1027
Last year attendance was 2094, 4293 and 1026 (can't find the 4th)
So yup, they draw over 1500 every once in a while. I would say the "homecoming" game gets a good draw. Maybe you move that to McMahon and play the others at Hellard.
And I'll second St. Pat's idea for good bars, although the field cannot be indoors...

That would be cool. The problem in Calgary, is so few students live right on campus, unlike Kingston or London.
