I think those pointe of view condos have a lot more to worry about then train tracks being right behind them!

Yeah, what the hell? How did I not notice this.

From a demolition permit to a massive re-development plan is a pretty huge turnaround for the owner of the site. Muta, do you know when the historic study will be completed?

I would love to tour (sneak in) the brewery and have a look.

It will not be the new home of the Calgary Flames, I can confirm that atleast.

I'll give you a tidbit, and it's about as fas as I can go at this point - think of destinations in other cities, particularly where people congregate. I can name two similar districts in two major Canadian cities alone.

I'm now sworn to secrecy. But I'll elaborate when I'm allowed to release more at a future date.

Not sure, but it's going on right now as we speak.

So it's going to be Eau Claire Part 2.

What gives you that impression?

No one congregates at Eau Claire.

Alright. Fine. I'm going to continue speculating wildly anyway. My only guess might be a similar redevelopment of old industrial buildings into thriving markets like what we saw with Granville Island, St. Lawrence, and to a lesser extent, The Forks.

I'm not sure how ownership worked with those examples, but I know that the federal government was involved with some funding. The Brewer lands are privately owned, so there would have to be some financial incentive to retain some of the historical importance of the site.

Interesting. And, to keep this on-topic, there will probably be a shiny, new, SE LRT stop right outside in a few decades.

Only if you're not counting homeless people.

I was at a presentation on the construction of the tower a few years ago and they mentioned that it was designed to withstand a direct hit from either a loaded freight train or a 747 (I think it was a 747). The tower should remain standing through either but there is a possibility that the restaurant will fall off.
They also mentioned that at the time, men and women couldn't consume alcohol in the same establishment so the province enacted an exemption if you were so many feet off the ground. (The more you know)

My current favourite session beer is Mill St Organic. Mill St is a Canadian brewery founded in 2002 and named after it's original location at 55 Mill st in the historic Distillery District.

P.S. They better call it Brewery Flats

Ald. Shane Keating has put out a blog post entitled "A Comprehensive Analysis of the Southeast Transitway." Some interesting information about the SE LRT and the SETWAY he is putting forth as a short-term solution.

Not sure there is a robust enough weighing of options to come to a conclusion - which he does. An interesting read nonetheless.
