Chances are they won't be pooping in the park, and stomping the sod into oblivion.
Probably less people will show up because they won't have winterized sleeping bags to crawl into.
Its miserable standing around all day in cold weather if you can't crawl into a sleeping bag or a tent with an electric heater to warm up.

I say get rid of all the tents... occupied or not. Since when did the fact that you are protesting something give you the right to camp on city property?

That idea has been repeated many times over, that they have every right to be there during park hours. As I sad a few pages back there's a clear cut reason why they refuse to do this... it's more work.
It's more work to get up each morning and decide that hopping on the train/bus/bike and head to the core to take part in a protest is how you'd like to spend your day.
It's more work to get back on the train and head home each night and determine if your day was well spent.
It's more work to get up that next day and decide "Yes, yesterday was well spent and I feel today would be best spent doing the same".
It's easier to set up a tent, roll in/out of bed whenever you please and tell yourself that your changing the world when you don't have to justify to yourself why you left the house that day.

I think that confrontation is exactly what the protestors want. It gives them an opportunity to launch frivolous lawsuits and such against the police.
Really though, the police should go in and not have to be concerned about their safety. If that means that protestors have to be handcuffed and dragged away kicking and screaming then I suppose that is fair enough. I trust that the CPS will do this with the least amount of force possible, back them to do what is necessary for their own safety to perform their job.

Well that's kind of the point of the whole civil disobedience thing, to break the law.
And sometimes I think it's warranted and necessary.
This isn't one of those times though I don't think, this quote from the article Dion posted earlier sums up my impression of this whole "movement" perfectly:
Quote:
“I’m telling you guys, I’m not moving from this spot and I’m protesting until I know our things are heard,” said James Bullock, 21. He said he wanted the mayor to speak to protesters about improving the drop-in centres and group homes — both of which are provincial responsibilities.

My apologies for adding to the discourse. I was a bit on edge earlier, actually my stomach is still in knots.

And to piggyback on what you're saying here I don't think that we want to enshrine the right to occupy wherever people choose within the rights to protest. There is no question that people have a right to assemble and of course the right to free speech, but as others have pointed out (in response to some of my own comments!) that doesn't give you the right to infringe on rights of others.
The problem is that once you allow this movement to act in this manner it spurs other groups (the street church for example) to act in similar ways, or press things even further. That is something that I don't want to see at all.

If you haven't had your fill of mindless chanting for the day this video taken earlier in the plaza should hit the spot: http://www.twitvid.com/NUJ5N
For those too lazy to watch the video let me transcribe it for you "i do not consent, I Do Not Consent, I DO NOT CONSENT! I DO NOT CONSENT!"
The bylaw officers go right along writing up the tickets as they should, just such an odd defence their trying.

Much more concise video from the Herald, featuring a touching rendition of O' Canada:
Sights and sounds: Protesters given 24 hours to move out
After watching this video I'm actually more confident in our officers to get this taken care of without violent clashes. They seemed to handle the issuing of tickets very clear & concise manner "Is this your tent? Here's your ticket, you have 24 hours to vacate or it will be impounded" and not allowing themselves to get caught up in the spectacle that some we're trying to create.

the officers are probably laughing their butts off in private, but man what calmness and control they maintained with these idiots.
"i do not consent" i would be laughing openly at all of them.
I would be taunting them you do not consent to what wearing deoderant and crapping in the bushes.

Remind me next time I get an infraction to reply with "I DO NOT CONSENT" - That invalidates the infraction, right Photon?

Would there even be much public outcry if the police geared up and smashed some heads while clearing out the park? At this point I don't think the average Calgarian would mind.

Watching the video I have a bit more sympathy for Mr. Morgan. These truly are homeless squatters who have nothing to protest but their slim grip on reality. Pretty aggravating to see them destroying Olympic Park.
With respect to your comment: These guys will never think that - they are LTL's... Lifetime losers. This is their high point.
