No such thing as a "sure thing" when it comes to anyone making the transition from college to the pros, but by all accounts Luck has the mechanics, the smarts, and the size to be as close as anyone could be. One game isnt going to change that...there is not a single team in the NFL that doesnt have him as the clear cut #1 player in the NCAA...whether or not the team who gets #1 and takes him is a bit of a debate right now, but i dont think you will find anyone, anywhere, that is involved in player personnel that believes AL won't be a very good to great NFL player.
Best prospect since Manning (some say Elway) is mighty high praise.

On a related note to the whole 'one game doesn't change that' idea, since when did the Heisman trophy become something that could only be won by guys on undefeated teams? Over and over again this year I've read columns about players falling out of the Heisman race due to their teams losing.
Wilson at Wisco was getting that treatment after losing on a hail mary on the final play of the game. Luck's getting it now (didn't watch Saturday so no idea how he performed) and others have gotten it as well.
Being on a winning and high profile team has always helped, but it seems like it's becoming more and more of a pre-requisite.

Agreed, Oklahoma State finished 11th in the final AP poll for 1988(10-2), it would have been highway robbery if he hadn't won. The other 4 finalists all had teams that finished ranked higher than OSU that year.
Peete (USC-7)
Aikman(UCLA-6)
Walsh(Miami-2)
Harris(WVU-5)
Obviously, there are other examples, but that season would have been a glaring omission.

Also, I don't think Luck was the one who gave up 50 to the ducks.

I had to laugh when I saw these tonight. Charlie Strong thinks the Louisville football team wasn't prepared for it's game this weekend because of the release of the latest Call of Duty game.

Strong rumors out there that Urban Meyer is going to be coaching in Columbus next season:
Link
Quote:
Before we dive into what we do know, it's important to point out what we're not saying:
1. Urban Meyer was not in Columbus yesterday or anytime in the last couple of weeks.
2. There is no contract in place between Urban Meyer and Ohio State. Nothing signed, whatsoever.
Now, here's what we do know based off of multiple sources that have a proven track record with delivering timely information to us:
1. There has long been mutual interest between Ohio State and Urban Meyer.
2. Urban has agreed in principle to take the position next year. Numbers have been exchanged and agreed upon via back-channel talks.
3. Ohio State and Meyer are waiting for the NCAA to deliver their verdict, after which time, the announcement of Meyer as the new head coach will take place...
|
This should come as no surprise to anyone, of course, but new info is new info. I wonder if Herbstreit will follow his dream to get into coaching.

OK, so assuming LSU wins out (I'm nervous about ARK and the SEC Champ. Game), who would be the best match up as a 1 loss team? Oregon, Oklahoma, Ok. State, Alabama?

I may sound like a huge Oregon homer here but assuming all win out...
Alabama shouldn't go as this would essentially mean that by loosing (at home to boot) to LSU they got a bye week (no SEC championship game) and hence an easier path to the championship then if they would have beat the tigers. The other downside here is they game would surely be another snore fest (argue all you want about good defences, but i'm gonna say at least 35% of that game was due to completely unimaginative offences)
One of Ok and OkSt will lose in the bedlam game so,
Oklahoma should not go. They lost to Texas Tech. At Home. That's Terrible.
Oklahoma State should not go. They lost to Iowa State who are also not a very good team.
Both teams also do not play a Championship game.
Oregon will have one loss to LSU (ranked #1) on the road (actually was a neutral site game, but for all intents and purposes it was a road game). They will have the most wins against FBS teams with a record of better then .500. Plus they will have won their conference championship game.

Not a good outcome for those of us who want to see a real championship game.....ie...LSU vs OU.
I wanted OU to beat an undefeated OSU in Stillwater. That win won't mean as much now.
A team that LSU has already beat should not get into that game, IMO.

I hope LSU loses (sorry Moe) and clouds this stupid system up even more.
Meanwhile, I'll watch Montana vs Montana State tomorrow knowing that both teams from my home state have a shot at a National Championship this season. Much more exciting.

Dude .....so Florida shouldnt have went a few years ago when they lost to an unranked miss state team at home? Would you feel any different if Landry would have cried on TV and made a fool of himself in the post game presser? The fact is that OU is one of the best teams in College football. We already saw LSU play Oregon and Alabama. We have not seen them play Oklahoma or OSU. Do you really wanna see rematches? Plus do you really want your boys to be embarrassed by LSU again? I mean their offense is Anemic , they played on a neutral field and they still dropped 40 on you. It could be a blood bath since the title game is in the bayou.

Ummm...in 2006 Florida lost to Auburn (in Auburn), who was ranked #11 at the time and finished ranked number 9 with an 11-2 record. In 2008, Florida lost to Ole Miss (in Florida) who finished the year ranked #14 with a 9-4 record. Texas Tech is 5-5 with wins over perennial powerhouses like Texas State, New Mexico, Nevada (by one point), Kansas and the aforementioned Sooners. So yeah don't compare either of those Gator losses to the Texas Tech one.
I do really wanna see a rematch. Alabama's amazing defence held LSU to 239 yard, 34 less yards then the Ducks. The difference in that game is a true freshman fumbling twice in his first game (btw he's only fumbled once since then).
Also Dallas is basically a home game for LSU.

Ole Miss, Miss st.... who cares. They were unranked when they played. All I am saying is there shouldnt be rematches. If LSU is beat by Bama or Oregon how can you possibly say that they are the best football team in the country? If you can say that Bama or Oregon is the best then your really saying that not all the games on the schedule matter?
LSU has already beat Bama and Oregon. Give the other teams a shot.
