This reeks of news sensationalism. I imagine a very very small number of kids are doing this, but once again the news media is creating a false symmetry in a desperate grab for ratings.

When I was in high school and college and someone was doing a beer bong, it would attract attention and people would gather around to cheer the guy/girl on.
I'm not sure an ass bong would have quite the same effect.

As has been mentioned, for most of us drinking is a social occasion, this cant possibly be. I dont see anyone calling to their buddy to quit hogging the ass bong and to pass it over...

If they're that desperate though, why don't they just use hand sanitizer or Listerine. Gees, it's not like they're going to be enjoying the taste of the vodka... hopefully.

Now, I dont really spend any time with people in that age demographic, but for me, I like to drink when I watch hockey and I go to a pub because its social and pretty women bring my beer and food to me like slaves....
No waitress is going to bring you Vodka soaked tampons or a bong that is to be inserted anally, and if she does, you're probably on the hook for a considerable tip.
